Weekend was fun. Josh came up. Anime was had. More on that later. Right now I feel like writing about something that has me alternately rolling my eyes and laughing my ass off.

What is it with fic authors thinking they're so damned high and mighty that any criticism at all is a personal attack that wounds them deeply? Without mentioning any names, last night and today I got wind of a certain author in the SM fandom who, as a result of an ASMR thread where her fic was mentioned in a not-completely-favorable manner (a bunch of people complimented it, others voiced their reservations, but nothing major) and one negative review on ffnet has become a whiny crying baby and is threatening to quit fic altogether. Geez, self-important melodrama much? Flames are one thing. Negative reviews are another thing entirely.

To all the annoying authors out there: YOU ARE NOT YOUR FICS. Negative feedback is not a personal attack. Get over it. If you post in a public forum, you should expect to have to deal with the fact that not everyone likes you at some point. People aern't obligated to only post nice reviews. And if someone does leave a negatvie review, they are not obligated to leave an e-mal address so you can whine to them that they are wrong wrong wrong for not loving your precious prose. If you think people actually having standards and preferences takes all the fun out of fic, maybe you're not ready to share your work with the world. If you're that damned sensitive, maybe you should find a cave and hunker down there with the rest of the crybabies who whine that it's not fair that people want things such as characterization, plot, and believability in fic. If you do decide to leave, don't post a passive-aggressive woe-is-me note so your followers will realize how put-upon you are and rush to boost your sagging ego. It's annoying and a manipulative bid for attention.

Suck it up already. Do you think people are being way too harsh and judging your work too critically? Well, if you don't believe them, why should you care what they think? If you're secretly worried that they might be right, why don't you try working and improving your work? Like it or not, fic archives are a public place and not your personal ego-massagers. Get over it already.
