same thing I use to assess any COTS software:

technical feature point comparison.

technology: tool integration, stability, compatibility and extensibility, file/platform interoperability

usability: task simplicity, learning curve, individual productivity, organizational effectivess, easy adaptability to business processes.(ie organization drives the tool, not the tool driving the organization)

user experience: reaction, look, feel, enjoyment, easy user artifact and skill sharing.

vendor: track record, upgrade/bug/training support, licensing, market penetration.
