Chrono Cross honestly didn't have a ton to do with Chrono Trigger (one of my disappointments with the game as a sequel, though it was enjoyable as a standalone) but Chrono Trigger is hands-down the best RPG I've ever played.
I really need to do like 10 Sokka icons, one for each Sokka-filled emotion. Smugness. Hunger. Confusion. Hunger. Hungry smugness. Confused hunger. Stupidity. Hunger. Badassery. Stupid badassery.
And yes, this would be a fun game to get. I need to get me some of this, and possibly some of the new FF Tactics.
Don't forget an animated icon of heart-eyes!Sokka for dorkily smitten. Man I love that shot.
I can't wait for this to come out! But I suppose I'll have to. We got a promo copy of the new Tactics at the office yesterday, actually, so maybe I'll try that. Will it matter if I never played the first Tactics, do you think?
Every RPG has some sort of introduction to it, where you learn the ropes. You should be okay.
A tactical RPG plays differently than say, CT does. So, don't expect it to be exactly the same. What you can do depends on where you are on the map, and how often you can do an activity depends on how long it takes to do it - certain actions are quicker than others.
I've done some tactical games before (some I grooved with, some not so much) but as long as I won't be clueless on some huge chunk of story, that's cool.
I WAS JUST THINKING THIS PAST WEEKEND ABOUT HOW AWESOME CHRONO TRIGGER WAS ON SNES AND MY ROOMMATE AND I WOULD PLAY IT ALL THE TIME AND THE GAME ACTUALLY HAD DIFFERENT ENDINGS BASED ON WHAT YOU DID AND HOW WAS ALL OF THAT GOODNESS PACKED INTO A TINY SNES CARTRIDGE?
OK, I know this is a totally dumb question, but I haven't ever shopped for handheld consoles before and have only marginally kept myself aware of what's available, and i"m at work and shouldn't even be skimming sites for prices, let alone doing research on the damn things (*g*) -
I know it was just called the DS at first. Now I see everything is DS Lite - is that the only option to buy these days? Is it basically the same thing just in a smaller package, like the newer generations of ipods?
No problem! A DS Lite is basically the DS, only a little smaller to better fit your hands, with a brighter backlit and slightly bigger screen. It's better all around. It also comes in different colors, which is fun. You're pretty much spot on about it being like newer ipods. It will also play previous-gen games from the Gameboy Advance, which can be fun, but there are plenty of great games specifically made for the DS.

I bought it on SNES.
I bought it on PSX.

And I will not regret it.

I will have to wait until my budget is a little better under control before I can afford one, but I definitely have it on my list now.
