FMA: Conqueror of Shambala
Fuck the handheld camera-ness. FMA IS MY CRACK I NEED IT MORE NOW GIVE ME MORE.
For the most part, I love this movie. Love it. Ed is perfect in his slightly-out-of-step-with-the-worldness. Oh, it hurts. Ed and his not-really-little brother Alphonse = SOCUTE. I'm sure it's the fact that he thinks Ed is totally wingnut that keeps him from being more annoyed than he is. "I'm glad Ed is interested in a woman." Subtitle: "Because I've been thinking he's a little too interested in me." I wonder, does it count as incest if they're not related in that world?...right, moving on.
I wonder what Ed uses to cover his fauxtomail limbs? It looked pretty realistic as skin. Of course, this is anime we're talking about.
OMG Gracia is so sweet and awesome and STOP CALLING HER GLACIER and I love her. Too bad Elysia's not around--yet. Get off your ass, Hughes! And stop being a racist. Hughes. A Nazi. Right. That's like a man-eating kitten. It seemed more like he was going along than following strongly-held beliefs, so I will believe it won't last.
Can I say how weird it is to have Hitler and all that in Fullmetal Alchemist, a pretty darned fantasy-looking series at first glance? Hee. It works, though.
Oh, Roy, you silly woobie you. You need to clean yourself up, take Riza out for dinner and drinks. The eyepatch works on you. Now you work it! Roy trying to light a match is one of the saddest things in the movie.
OMG IZUMI. So fucking sad, but she had a great life (in the sense that she was awesome and achieved much, because parts of it actually really sucked for her). We salute you, ma'am.
Can I say how much I love Edresembling!firstepisodehomage!Al? Because I do. He is AWESOME and I LOVE HIM SO MUCH and EEH AL. I love that he gets to be awesome and shine on his own without being in Ed's shadow. Not that I think he ever resented it, but still. It's just SO SO great. And the flip "my soul is easily detachable"? ALSO AWESOME. And nice hair, kid. He's really growing up and I love him so much.
When the souled!armor hugs Ed and squishes the shit out of him? So sweet and adorable I nearly cried. Poor Ed for having to hear AL doesn't remember and then watching him go, and poor Ed for never getting his limbs back, seriously.
Other things I love:
+ I like seeing Rose be strong and raising her child. She really came a long way in the series.
+ I love Armstrong. He is never not funny like woah.
+ I love that Winry and Sciezka are clearly still dating. Makes up for the way she got dicked out of her two best friends at the end. That's the only thing I don't like about the ending.
+ Aw, visiting Hughes' grave. Sniffle.
It was nice to see Wrath again. I felt bad for him--at the end of the series it was like he had a second chance, but here in the movie he didn't seem to have used it. But then, could he? Was it even possible? Maybe not. It was nice to see him fighting for Al instead of against him, and his reunion with Izumi melted my heart. Good job, kid. And go Gluttony! I knew he won. No more evil Ziggy!
"Hello, my name is Roy Mustang. I am a smooth bastard with giant balls. Let me show you." YES! Nothing cooler than those casual snaps of kickass. And he knew Ed would come back! Ed is so Roy's boy. Roy Junior. Not in a sex way. And I totally need a "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king" icon.
Ed and Al, both kickass alchemists, working together? That was a beautiful thing. I think I started clapping when they both did alchemy without a transmutation circle together.
Skipping ahead--Lust/Scar OTP. That was glorious. I'm so happy they're together in another world! And it's hilarious how he's just glaring at Ed. He just knows he should. Seriously, Lust/Scar is my OTP of FMA, along with Roy and Riza.
I wonder if anyone noticed Amestris!Al at Alter!Al's funeral?
Okay, the end--I don't like that Winry just loses Ed and Al. I agree with
rashaka that it's good that Winry is confident and able to move on and not dependent on Ed to be happy. (I do like Ed/Winry, but I can live without it.) But still--even if she's exceedingly well-adjusted and can deal with it, it still sucks that she's lost her best friend again, and Al too. That's cold.
But I love that Ed and Al are together again. That's the way they should be.
Aiight, people, talk to me.
rashaka?
donna_c_punk?
octopedingenue? Don't leave me alone in my squeeness.

Seriously. They're just...still hanging out together and it's totally natural, like the last time we saw them. They're adorable.
It's a pity that we won't see Greed again. Like, never. I <3<3<3 Greed.
Greed was big pimpin' and we honor his passing.

MOVIE!!!!
way late
That's what I was so surprised at with the end of the tv series. But when you think about it... thematically and structurally FMA is so close to the same kind of environment that produced Hitler, and the Amestris military is so vaguely fascist already... it really does oddly fit.
I felt bad for him--at the end of the series it was like he had a second chance, but here in the movie he didn't seem to have used it. But then, could he? Was it even possible? Maybe not. Evil Ziggy! Hee.
I was sad for Wrath too, but at the same time proud of him at the end.
Izumi's fate broke my heart, but I'm glad she got one of the kindest send-offs in the series.
Nothing cooler than those casual snaps of kickass.
Indeed. He enters, looks around, and goes "My god you really ARE totally incompetant without me! I thought that was just my own ego!"
Ed and Al, both kickass alchemists, working together? That was a beautiful thing. I think I started clapping when they both did alchemy without a transmutation circle together.
Ed/Al are my OTP in a non-sexual way. Like Fuu/Jin/Mugen are my OT3 in a non-sexual way. In the end, they're the relationship I care about most in the series, and just happens to not be a romantic relationship.
But really, Ed and Al, together at the end? SO MUCH LOVE. That's where they really need to be-- with each other. The world (any world) is theirs, as long as they're together and strong.
I wonder if anyone noticed Amestris!Al at Alter!Al's funeral?
Well, he would look about 5 years younger than Al Heidrich/Heinrich (sp?), and have darker hair. I find it interesting that in our world Al has much lighter hair than Ed. Speaking of Al... how sad was it that he was dying in our world just the same way Trisha died alchemy!side?
I never thought of Winry dating Sceizska until you mentioned it, but now I'm kinda open to the idea of fanfiction for the pairing. Of course that interferes with my secret love for Scieszka/Havoc (which admittedly I've never read fic for, but thought would be cute after 37.)
