Don't worry too much about the gold, especially in the beginning. Both dungeons are chock-full of it - you can pretty much buy everything in the game just by looting the chests in the second dungeon. Until then, keep yourself in herbs and inn visits with the money you get from fighting slimes. Just concentrate on leveling up and learning all your kana, so you can get into the dungeons.
ohhh i just downloaded that game. I'm really hoping it will help me remember all the kanji i've been forgetting lately ^^:; But you're having fun with it ne?
This just reminds me too much of my girlfriend playing through FF VI right now. There's this goddamned bear thing that attacks you a swipes your gold. Why is this bear a klepto? Why does he have gold to begin with? Why does the evil plant monster thing you just killed carry cash?
Why do all the villagers in Zelda games hide all of their money in conspicuous pots?
I've been playing Slime Forest as well. How far are you? I'm done mostly with the mainland dungeon and I'm trying to figure out how to get past the Slime Island. I can get there, and roam around that dungeon til I die but can't find a way back to main land.

It boggles the mind, really.
