I'm not leaving Bleach, I'm just branching out

A pair of new* fandom notes:

1. As much as I love Phoenix/Edgeworth, and as much as I love Mia/Diego, my first fic for the Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban fandom is all about Mia and college!Feens. Huh. I guess my dorklove outweighs my appreciation for this ships. Or it did today. (Yes, I was at work today, but I had no tasks and my boss has been out of the office for a few days. I would LOVE to have more to do, but until then I fic.) Now I'm all nervous about posting it. New fandoms are scary.

2. Even though I think I like Trials & Tribulations-era Phoenix the bestest, dahskjghascvasdyuwydgoq I am absurdly attracted to hobo!Phoenix. As much as one can be to a character who exists in official art and game sprites, I mean. Stupid sexy stubble. STOP SNIGGERING, KELLEY, I CAN HEAR YOU.

*I finished the original trilogy ages ago and Apollo Justice a month or so back, so the games aren't new to me. Just the fandom.

I love hobo!Phoenix. I'm not sure I can explain why, but there's something about his attitude and his protectiveness toward Trucy that I just love.

I find his character fascinating, but he does break my heart a bit--not just that he's lost his badge, but the way it hardened him. I did feel more reassured by the last case, when we get to see into his head a bit--it was easier to see that the Phoenix we knew was still in there, and how he went from one to the other. And his work on the jurist system was great because it showed he hadn't just given up on everything. LOVE him and Trucy. That line from when he adopted her--something like "It was a really dark time in my life. But Trucy--she was my light." I melted.

It was painful as hell to have to actually play out the presentation of the forged evidence, though. That was evil.

Yeah... at first I was thinking "Wow, is he so bitter he just gave up on the law?" but it wasn't that simple, and I was glad.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
He is somewhat bitter/a douche, but he's still him. That was a big relief. Zak Gramarye's a bigger one, though. Actually most parents in this series are.

There is much in PW to love. :)

(And now we wait for the Edgeworth game . . .

But you have joined us at last!!!

(I did show you my Bleach/PW crossover, right?)

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have! I can sit at your table in the cafeteria of PW fandom, right?

(Oh yes. I read it when you first posted it--at that time, I think the only one I hadn't played was Apollo Justice. Was re-reading it this morning, actually, since this new fandom squee brought it to mind.)

You can sit at my table and we will point our fingers together.

And it is a game with such marvellous villains. You truly glory in your victory over them.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to practice my finger-pointing!!!

It really is. It's hard to choose favorites, too. Dahlia probably wins for me because she's such a gloriously evil bitch, but Matt Engarde is up there for sheer unexpected crazy. (And Kristoph is just a DOUCHE.) Yet it's so humanizing, too. I finished my replay of the plotty cases in T&T last night and it really struck me this time that, knowing what the true story is, it's much clearer that Godot WANTS the truth to come out, but it's a test for Phoenix. Fascinating.

I agree. Kristoph is total slime.

Cannot wait to see the new game with Edgeworth.

And yes, I agree re Godot in that case as well.

I'm still sort of mad they made us play out the presentation of the forged evidence. I have to halfway consider it a forked AU path from the end of T&T otherwise it's occasionally too depressing.

I am VIBRATING with excitement. Lucky SDCC attendees.

Yes. I am vastly jealous!

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
YES it's amazing. I love Godot so much.

Apollo Justice scares me a bit. I still don't have it.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I LUFFLES HIM AND PLAN TO FIC HIM

Apollo Justice has some very cool aspects to it--overall I liked it, though T&T had better writing. Some bits are depressing, considering what happens to Phoenix, but towards the end they show that he's not quite as different as he initially acts. So that was good.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I almost bought it at Comic-Con but they were charging FULL RETAIL at the CapCom booth. WHY CAPCOM, I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The older games were cheaper. Bastards!

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Older games in general or the older Ace Attorney games? Cuz I would've bought copies to resell if it's the latter. Those things are hard to find now.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Both, though I think maybe they only had Trials and Tribulations. Damn!

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's the best one, though so heartbreaking.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Playing Miles Edgeworth, Ace Defense Attorney was so satisfying.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Deeply so. I mean, it was fucking hilarious--I loved getting his mental commentary on absolutely everything. But it was also awesome that he got to live his boyhood dream, even for a little while. And omg, getting to play as MIA. TWICE. I wife her hard now. I really want them to make a prequel game that takes place between the trial where she nails Dahlia and the first AA game, in which Mia is the main attorney and law school student Phoenix plays the Maya-assistant role as her court intern or something. I would pay SO MUCH MONEY for that.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-26 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mia is SO MUCH WIN seriously. She's so competent! It was disconcerting playing someone who actually knew what she was doing.

Oooh, that would be AWESOME.
