Deep thoughts late at night

It's tough to accept when you're in a situation where the best you can do is nothing at all--that any action on your part would only be enabling fucked-up behavior. You keep thinking "no, there has to be something different I can do, I just have to keep looking and figure it out" because years of shonen anime and Galaxy Quest have taught us NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER because there's always a solution. And that's not always true. And it sucks.

...

At least we still have polar bears who hug dogs!

Not to take away from the sincerity of this post or anything, but your remarks on the nature of shonen anime got that damn music video stuck in my head.

My eyes are getting fuzzy so I'll check that out tomorrow because at nearly 3 in the morning I don't really recognize it.

Also I'll probably call you because I have tales of fucked up things to share and it's your job to validate me.

Hmmm. Those are, indeed, deep thoughts late at night. And it's also very true. And incredibly sucky.

But enough about that. POLAR BEAR HUGS! <3

POLAR BEAR HUGS NOT FOLLOWED BY EATING! It warmed my stone heart.

Especially true for me tonight (but it's not that rare for me lately anyway).

I grew up thinking it's never too late, that every puzzle has a solution, and nothing is beyond if you want it bad enough and try hard enough.

I'm not sure which has been harder: learning that these are lies, or figuring where to go once you've learned it.

Do you ever read Terry Pratchett's Discworld books? Hogfather was the one that first got my attention in a big way, because while the setup is funny--Death takes over as the world's Santa Claus equivalent while the real thing is dead/missing--the reasoning for it really blew my mind: belief in the Hogfather is sort of training wheels for believing in things like justice and mercy. Because these things exist, but if you examine the entire world under a microscope, you'll never find a physical grain of them. Belief is necessary.

::snuggles:: It's true, alas. @-@

(Omg that video!! Dogs: "Leggo!!" Bears: "NOOOOOO ::glomp::")

Don't be like that. At least in American we have readily available education and, in the worst case scenario, fairly simple bankruptcy proceedings. ...That didn't help much did it?

Sometimes, when I feel stuck like that, what I do is help something I can help with.

This is how I end up knitting socks for kids in Afghanistan. But hey, socks are warm.

That's because bad economy can't be defeated under a gazillion chapters :<
