Okay, you know what, people who called me in the middle of the day?

A good way to get me to buy an extended factory warranty on my car is to NOT act all offended when I ask for some written material and inform you I'm not committing to anything during this unexpected phone call, and then ask if I am calling them liars. That is when I hang up.

i think its a scam anyway so props to ya!

I wouldn't be surprised, but my car just turned 10 and was officially transferred to my ownership from my parents', so it was plausible enough that I was willing to check out what they had to send. But my radar went up when the operator was all "your account was transferred to us" and I'm like "what, from HONDA?"

There are a couple hits on google that talk about the scam that was popular about a year ago.

DEFINITELY a scam.

[identity profile] utenatai.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I get those calls all the time, too

Okay, good. Yay my instincts! It would actually be plausible if the dealership or their rep or something were calling me, but when you give me the "it's now or never!!!!!" sales pitch, I pick "never."

Yeah, these are totally bogus. I get them.

I have no car.

I haven't gotten any since I informed the bimbo on the other end that I was on the Do Not Call list and also that she'd called a cell phone.

The first lady I talked to actually ASKED me if I wanted to be on the DNC list, but I was too busy being "bwuh, wha?" to say "YES" like I should have.

I used to get these calls once a week on my WORK cell of all things. They were always from a different number. Never mind that my truck is so old that it hasn't had a warranty in years. >:(

[identity profile] loveotter.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
These people were calling my cell phone. My stupid prepaid cell phone, which costs me a dollar a day for just one phone call, outgoing or incoming. And then they kept disconnecting me every time I tried to talk to a live person.

OMFG!!! I've been getting the same calls, too, but was smart enough to never answer. I told my dad about it recently, and he said that it's all a sham. So annoying...

As you well should.

[identity profile] bacafreak.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
People that scam others like that really need to get a life >:(

We don't have scams like those here (as in with calls). It prolly costs too much, so they stick to text scams.

I ignore all those calls unless they sound really serious. You never know, they are people out there that have way too much time on their hands.
