Oscars!
(Not sure if I'm gonna liveblog the whole thing. We'll see!)
8:26 - I gotta say, the red carpet gushing is kind of nauseating.
8:30 - Some kind of CGI intro thing that looks way cheaper than it should. LOL, I sense someone didn't have enough time to do something cool after the writer's strike ended!
8:33 - Aaaand Jon Stewart gets in his first SNAP of the evening. I hope to see many more.
8:41 - I don't know whether it was out of respect for the somber time in the industry, the lack of time to prepare or something else, but the opening monologue...not very funny. A few good jokes though.
8:42 - Costume design goes to Elizabeth: The Golden Age. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the movie's token Oscar, since I keep hearing about how it was technically well done but not really well-liked. SUPER short speech. For that, she deserves the award.
8:49 - IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO PLAY "MY HEART WILL GO ON" OVER THIS MONTAGE? DIDN'T IT GET ENOUGH AIRTIME YEARS AGO?
8:51 - SQUEE! The Get Smart theme! *ignores actual award* Oh fine, best animated picture. Ratatouille. Is anyone even a little surprised?
8:57 - Best makeup: La Vie en Rose. I have no idea what this movie is about. *is uncultured*
9:45 - LOL A JOKE ABOUT JACK NICHOLSON IMPREGNATING ACTRESSES DURING THE CEREMONY. It could totally happen.
9:48 - Best adapted screenplay. Sarah Polley wrote a nominated one? Wow, go her. And, it's the Cohen brothers. Cool.
8:59 - First nominated best song: Happy Working Song from Enchanted. Amy Adams is on dress #2.
9:06 - Apparently, during the commercials, the Oscar attendees sit around making catty remarks about the outfits worn by people at home because "it goes both ways, people!" Hee.
9:08 - Golden Compass for best visual effects. Everyone likes a jaw-slapping polar bear.
9:11 - Sweeney Todd for best art direction. I kinda love the creepy "WooOOOOoo" overture that plays.
9:18 - Best supporting actor: Javier Bardem. Who?
9:26 - Ooh, a big choir singing something dramatic. I always like that.
9:31 - Jerry Seinfeld gives an animated cameo as the bee in Bee Movie. Groan.
9:36 - Hooray for Tilda Swinton as best supporting actress! You go, Jadis of Narnia! She looks cutely shocked. Love the hair color, but is she wearing any makeup at all? And the dress is...unfortunate.
9:52 - Miley Cyrus at the Oscars. You've gotta be kidding me. She looks cute, though.
9:53 - YEAH, KRISTIN CHENOWETH SINGS! Go Olive!
10:03 - Who are these guys? And again, Transformers loses an Oscar, this time to Sound Editing. I want it to win its last category so bad.
10:06 - CURSES! No Oscars for Optimus Prime.
10:11 - Awright, best actress time, and it goes to...Marion Cotillard. I hear she deserves it, though man, Cat Blanchett was SCARY in her clip.
10:18 - WII TENNIS ONSTAGE. AWESOME.
10:20 - Ooh, purty song. I already forget what it's from, but I like it.
10:29 - I totally want Renee Zellweiger's dress! That's some awesome silver there.
10:32 - jainax: Nicole finally has a baby
Indigosama: Oh god I wish I could look like that
Indigosama: that necklace is fucking awesome
jainax: It looks like a diamond ass shat all over her chest.
10:45 - The "versatile and handsome Patrick Dempsey"? LOL. Some Oscar narrator has a crush! Aaaand Amy Adams is on dress #3.
10:49 - And Travolta comes to present best song.
Indigosama: LOL SCIENTOLOGIST
jainax: SOMEONE RICKROLL HIM!
Yay, the pretty song wins.
10:59 - Did Cameron Diaz actually do her hair or just swoosh it up in a ponytail real quick?
11:10 - Atonement nabs Best Score. Woo. I guess? I didn't have a preference here.
11:12 - A group of soldiers gets to present best documentary? Okay, that's kinda awesome no matter how you slice it. Good for them! I wonder how they got selected.
11:23 - SNICKER. Harrison Ford as an auto dealership. Now I'll never be able to think of him any other way.
11:25 - Awesome, Juno for best original screenplay. Diablo Cody has come so far! I should probably go see the movie now.
11:30 - GODDAMN, HELEN MIRREN LOOKS FAAAAAAAABULOUS. And she deserves some award for the awesome way she's delivering her bit.
11:34 - And Daniel Day-Lewis is best actor. I would've liked to have seen Johnny Depp or Viggo Mortenson take it, but it seems like Day-Lewis turned in a great performance.
11:43 - "I don't have a lot to add to what I said earlier. Thank you." Hee. Best director: Cohen brothers. Fun speeches this year.
11:47 - Aaaaand Best Picture is...No Country For Old Men, not There Will be Blood, which I was kinda expecting. Huh. But I have basically no opinion on this. Not the most exciting Best Picture round this year.
And that's a wrap!

It had Lightning McQueen in it. It was perfect.
Do liveblog it.

Are you watching on E!? Did they do the fantastic slow-scroll up of all the actors, including the underaged ones, as they did last year with Abigail Breslin?

I don't know if I'll ever forgive Javier Bardem for taking part in the atrocity that was Love in the Time of Cholera.

SNICKER. Harrison Ford as an auto dealership. Now I'll never be able to think of him any other way.
Paul Walker: "His dad owns Harrison Ford."
Rachael Leigh Cook: "The actor?"
Paul Walker: "No, the car dealership."
[I may have seen She's All That a couple of
dozentimes.]no subject
Therefore, Javier Bardem = WIN.
I really have nothing else to add here.
