First off, for those who asked, sorry, but the chickens weren't crossing the road. They were loitering in it. Though once I was driving up to college and we DID have to stop the car to let the chicken cross it. I don't remember it doing much when it got to the other side, though.

1. Favorite mindfuck: Perfect Blue
--runner up: Adolescence of Utena
I love Utena more overall, but for more reasons than the fucked up bits. Perfect Blue is a fantastic film and messes with my head every time, even though I know the plot.

2. Favorite 'someone please call Child Welfare' anime: Bleach
--runner up: Evangelion
WHY DO ALL THESE KIDS LIVE ALONE? Not Naruto because I don't think Naruto actually has Child Welfare.

3. Actually satisified with the ending: Samurai Champloo
--runner up: Trigun
Just very satisfied with the emotional resolution of both, but like Scath, I was so worried about Champloo pulling a Bebop that it was that much more joyful.

4. Favorite pleasant surprise: Full Metal Panic
--runner up: Here is Greenwood
I guess I didn't really NOT expect to like these, but I didn't think much about them, and they were/are enjoyable.

5. Favorite 'hurts so good' anime: Trigun
--runner up: Cowboy Bebop

--runner up: Boogiepop Phantom
Jigoku Shojo is more depressing than creepy, but it is that.

9. Favorite 'the ending fit but still left me vaguely dissatisfied': Escaflowne
--runner up: Eureka 7
Nothing bad about Esca's ending...it was just too fast.

10. Favorite old-school: Lupin III
--runner up: Sailor Moon

11. Top (can't call it a favorite) 'don't make me slap you': Naruto

12. Favorite 'the supporting characters are more interesting than the main character' anime: Inuuyasha
--runner up: Bleach
Inuyasha can go eat a bag of dicks. As for Bleach, I do find the main characters interesting, but the supporting characters are also really interesting and there are so many good ones that it's up there because of volume.

13. Favorite '...did I really just see that?" anime: Utena
--runner up: Evangelion

14. Favorite 'You're a ridiculously overpowered retard, but I love you anyway': Bleach

I love big dorky shonen heroes.

Well, I basically meant a story that drags you through the emotional wringer only to bring you back to where you started with no real resolution. At least, that's how I remembered the movie to be (from one viewing at least 10 years ago).

Mine would have to be Pokemon. "Of course it's OK that these 10-year-olds are wandering alone in the woods. They have clean underwear!"

And I don't even want to get into James's parents...

Then again, maybe they don't have child welfare either. Or Officer Jenny shows up and takes the kids to be raised by kindly Pokemon.
