Why? Because Chase immediately closed the account and cleared me of the EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS IN FRAUDULENT CHARGES some jerkass had racked up on a credit card that I have never actually used.

They said they'd send a letter to the agencies stating the situation. Is there anything else I should do? Hmm, I should google this.

Run a credit check on yourself with all the major credit agencies about once every three months for a year. Then once per year just to be sure they got the credit card number and not your whole identity. Return paperwork to CC company and bank as quickly as possible, and find yourself a good public notary (I had to have one sign off on some of the paperword the bank required).

And as someone below said...keep on their asses about it until everything looks kosher again.

I've always found credit card companies to be extremely good about fraud. Egg were fantastic when mine was stolen, and Capital One were perfectly happy to write off the purchase of a two thousand dollar sofa by someone who wasn't me two weeks before I emigrated - I was worried that would drag on while I was moving and involve overseas communications, especially since the timing loked a bit odd, but no problems at all.

That's awesome that they're doing that for you. But we've had fraud in our family before (someone bought a car under my uncle's name and never made payments >_<) And they're STILL trying to fix it. SO my recommendation is to keep checking with the credit agency to make sure there's nothing else wrong and if there is stay on their ass till they fix it.

HOLY SHIT. How did that happen? Did you throw out a pre-approved card and somebody else picked it up? Glad Chase was awesome to you. They're in charge of my Little Mermaid card, so that's reassuring :)

I applied for this card years ago, I think when I was doing that freeipods.com thing. It had one of those programs where you get Amazon money points for money you spend on it. But I just ended up never using it. So no idea where someone else got it.
