1. The reason he was so sick and therefore absent at the beginning of the SS arc is because he drove himself into one of his sick spells by worrying about missing!Rukia.
2. He's on Rukia's side first and would like whoever she chose as a romantic partner, whether it's Renji or Ichigo (or no one) as long as they treated her well and made her happy...but he has to admit that he has a soft spot for the boy, because he's the only other person Ukitake knows also insisted on saving her from the very beginning. (Ukitake had begun to wonder if everyone else had gone nuts.)
3. He is a man of few vanities, and never buys the fancy shampoos and conditioners people think his hair must need when he goes shopping; they therefore conclude he must have naturally luxurious hair. But he actually has an under-the-table deal with a local vendor who discreetly delivers cases of the very best hair care products to his home.

1) Isshin does in fact have a small but tasteful playboy collection set aside for Ichigo, should he ever show an interest. (Think Playboy, not Hustler.) It's somewhere Ichigo might find but the girls wouldn't, like in Isshin's dresser drawer that keeps his extra aftershave, because someday Ichigo might actually grow some facial hair.
2) Ichigo was an accident, conceived during a weekend in which they tried to cover as much of the kama sutra as possible. Sometimes Isshin wonders which position resulted in their baby son, and if that position had anything to do with his personality.
3) He trusts Kisuke Urahara as much as he thinks is safe. He does not always like Urahara. But they're still friends through it all; some people you just can't shake.
And...
1) Kaien was entirely unaware of Rukia's crush on him until Miyako told him, and chided him to be sensitive about her feelings, because crushes pass, but she would need his friendship forever.
2) He has the mullet mostly because he's just too lazy to get his hair cut more often.
3) He likes to joke about people calling him captain and how he really runs the place, but in his heart, he's dead certain he'll never live up to Ukitake; who could?

1) He has a tendency to take care of any homeless animals nearby when they are sick or need help; on more than one occasion he's fallen asleep with a litter of kittens sleeping on him in various places.
2) His diet is often vegetarian by default to save money, but he figures he must be getting enough protein, because it hasn't hurt his growth anyway.
3) When Rukia was living in Ichigo's closet, before Chad found out what was going on with the whole shinigami thing, he noticed Ichigo spending more time with the transfer student than with him and wondered if his friend had finally noticed girls in that way. When he found out the truth, he was relieved to know that it was circumstances and not choosing dating over friendship that led to the absence, and he hopes the distance doesn't grow when Ichigo finally does notice girls.

1. Though he never expected to have an especially warm relationship with the sister he was determined to find, and he did expect that family resemblance might be the key to finding her, he did not expect the resemblance to be so great. After seeing her from afar for the first time, he spent an hour damning her for looking so much like Hisana, and another hour damning himself for doing that.
2. However, it isn't the resemblance that keeps him from looking at her for all those years. He can cope with the pain of memory. What he's truly afraid of is that one day he'll associate that face only with Rukia; he cannot bear the thought of losing even this part of Hisana.
3. While he is recovering after Aizen's departure from Soul Society, Byakuya thinks about Rukia and ponders when he came to love his sister, but he can't remember. It seems he always has.
4. A Kuchiki never behaves foolishly. But Byakuya still feels a little silly for never realizing that his vice-captain had known his sister far better than he does.
5. Though he recognizes that Kurosaki Ichigo is not a romantic fool who saved Rukia for love, Byakuya is not stupid and realizes the possibility is there. He approves of the boy's determination and devotion to Rukia, but thinks he needs a great deal of rounding before he's worthy of committing himself to anyone. Either way, he'll make him work for it.
6. He is likewise aware that his sister and his vice-captain also care for each other greatly. He is not certain if it is a romantic manner, but if it is, he hopes to his soul that Rukia does not begin a relationship with Renji until he's made his own captaincy. A Kuchiki is never awkward, but there are some things a captain and vice-captain just shouldn't share.
7. He would have liked to have had a child with Hisana.
8. She has been dead for ten times the amount of time they were married. He is still in love with her.
9. Despite his annoyingly good-natured meddling, Byakuya privately likes Ukitake until the other captain comes to Byakuya's home with a guilty expression and Rukia covered in blood.
10. He's not sure how to build a closer relationship with Rukia; he has no clue where to even start. He's going to try anyway.
