And I'm kinda "eh" on Byakuya. He's alright, but I think the VA needs to be more soft-spoken.

Renji's just makes me mad because he can't even say his own name properly.

I don't think the dub VAs are obligated to imitate the Japanese ones, but JESUS. They shouldn't HAVE to to realize that's shit.

I think Byakuya's is good overall but yeah, soft is better. He had that down pretty well in the first episode where he had more than one line.

Eh, AbARai Renji is a little odd, true, but it's also a Japanese name being said in english dialogue, so I'll give it some slack. (But none for "Cooch Key" Rukia.)

"Cooch-key" is awful awfulness. But seriously, "Abarai" is not difficult for an English speaking person to say. A name like "Uryuu" would be more understandable to mispronounce.

But they don't really mispronounce it, do they? They just put the emphasis on another syllable. "Cooch key" cuts out a syllable entirely and just sounds silly as hell, though it does allow me to make many dirty jokes, and I appreciate that.

Well, mispronouncing is pronouncing something incorrectly so I guess it depends on how picky you want to be. *g* Like if somebody called me "Gee-NA" instead of "GEE-na", I'd be like, "wtf!" So I just don't see why they emphasize "Abarai" differently. It's not hard to pronounce at all.

Now, someone was complaining about "Byakuya" being mispronounced, but that one's a harder name (to me), so I would cut them some slack there. Can't wait to hear how they say "Ukitake" cuz that's a real tongue-twister XD

But anyway, it IS a gray area and I don't get super upset over it. (Except for CoochKey cuz that is like, so wrong.)
