Hit me!

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] sintari:

01. Post this on your journal.
02. Your friends will comment with some of your fandoms or some general topic about fandom (EX: just the fandom or things like "Prince of Tennis ships").
03. In a new post (or in comments) respond back with one or two of your unpopular opinions for that fandom or topic.

Have any unpopular opinions about IchiRuki?

(And OMG I'm still reeling over your email. Will answer soon. I keep getting these damn phone calls and I'm about to give The Warning. Oh god.)

YOU CAN DO IT. BE STRONG.

Aside from thinking a good portion of the fic is insipid? (Though a lower percentage than SOME fandoms I've been in, damn.)

Hmm, a couple of things spring to mind.

1. I do think they could say "I love you" to each other. They're not gonna get ubermushy and it's probably not something that would get said every day (they seem like they'd show rather than tell), but a lot of ichiruki fans I've seen discuss the topic seem to think that "not mushy" means "cannot say it ever." (I don't think Ichigo could say it NOW but damn, he's still in Cluelessville about that sort of thing in general.)

2. This one is more about ichiruki's place in fandom than about ichiruki itself, but I feel like sometimes (not most of the time, definitely, just enough to make note of it) ichiruki fans get put in the position of having to justify their pairing preference more than other comparably plausible ships. Like having to go "okay, no, it's not just because they're the lead guy and girl that we like them." People would look at you like you were nuts if you suggested that Renji's devotion to Rukia is a deep friendship and family connection rather than him being in love with her, but these same people brush off Ichigo's determination to save her as being obligation and partnership and geez why do we have to interpret everything romantically, us silly folks?

Hee, that almost sounds like a rant. It's really not. I've really only seen this attitude coming from a few sources, not that I want to name names. And I think there are other pairing camps that get hassled more. But yeah, I do sometimes feel like we have to explain ourselves more in certain cases.

But overall I am fairly pleased with the tolerance level between ships, which is higher than other fandoms I've been in.

As an aside I meant to include, I want to say that I do think Renji's devotion is more romantic while Ichigo's partnership/obligation/etc, but I also think Renji has significant non-romantic aspects, and there's more-than-friends subtext on Ichigo's end as well. The point being that there are totally shades of gray, but to suggest otherwise sometimes gets you the o_O face.

Princess Tutu ships.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I'm so new to Tutu and not even done with it yet so keep that in mind.

On one hand, I don't seriously ship anyone because I can't bring myself to get really invested in the love lives of 12 year olds. (see: Avatar) On the other hand, this is a big twisted fairy tale so that kind of transcends the age thing.

I...could rant more, but I'm just going to say Fakir/Ahiru all the way. Because as much as they both love Mytho so much, and as sincere as they are, Mytho also seems to be on an invisible pedestal where they're concerned. But the two of them seem most alive and imperfect and real when they interact with each other.

I have no illusions that this is going to be a happy ending. (NO SPOILERS PLZ)

But what are your thoughts on yaoi?

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like I am fangirl deficient, because while two hot men onscreen are better than one and I do like some m/m pairings, the sexxxy factor of dude on dude boinking has never done anything for me.

Fullmetal Alchemist pairings!

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
This is another fandom where I don't do a lot of active shipping. I don't mind Ed/Winry, but I don't squee for it either. Don't see the logic behind Ed/Roy, but it doesn't eat at my soul or anything. I think Elricest is stupid. I think all of the above would be considered unpopular in the right circles!

Inuyasha fandom as a whole

Avatar ships? (Yeah, I know you're new and all that, I'm just curious as to your opinions so far.)
