An experiment of sorts

I'm going to try and give up soda for a month in favor of water. Possibly longer than a month if I like it, but I want to have realistic goals at first. Whenever I want a pop at work, I'll just look up at the Renji poster above my computer, and when I come out of my lust coma, surely the thirst will be forgotten. When I'm at home...well, I guess this is an excuse to find more pictures of Renji, isn't it?

Sounds very smart! I like your Renji idea.

Here are some other tips that you didn't ask for, but I'm a busybody so:
lemon or lime wedges
unsweetened seltzer water (even just a splash of it in regular water)
unsweetened tea (if you make it yourself with a green or black tea bag and some cool water).

I don't know how possible some of this stuff is at work but... yeah.
:-D

Having done this before, my suggestion is to always have water nearby: waterbottle on the desk, glass of water next to couch, waterbottle on bedside table, a shrine to cute stream nymphs under your office desk, etc. etc. etc.

See, when your body is thirsty, you should give her liquid refreshment (although, I'm sure she wouldn't say no to a good lust coma or seven). There are some things you can and should negotiate with your body on (the rest of the double-chocolate, Irish creme cheese cake, a fourth long island ice tea, mass homicide with a sharpened spoon), but assuaging dehydration ain't one of them.

Definitely a good idea. Soda tends to give you the urps as you get older, at least it did for me.

If you MUST have soda, try to switch to diet. I know, I know, diet tastes all yucky, etc etc. I assure you that you will get used to it in time, and it is a hell of a lot better for you than 120 calories a can.

I'm sorta on Diet right now--if it's Coke, I have to have the real thing, but I'm madly in love with cherry vanilla diet Dr. Pepper. I think the special-flavored pops disguise the diet-y taste...but I shouldn't go on about this subject anymore if I want to stick to the water. ;)

For a moment I was wondering what a "special-flavored pop" was, that maybe it was some form of lollypop, and then I remembered you're one o' them Midwesterners that says "pop" instead of "soda." :)

*is teasing you*

At least we're not like those people who call EVERYTHING "coke"! I just don't understand that!

I did the same thing after college, when I was drinking 5 or 6 cans of coke in a day, and now I almost never drink any. For me, the trick was to get down to one can per day. Then it was easy to quit cold-turkey. Also, tea and lemon or lime juice helps make the water more interesting. Sometimes I have iced tea or coffee in restaurants, but at home it's almost always water for me.
