Oscar Mountain

Before Brokeback Mountain came out, I remember reading an article about how neo-cons had basically decided to ignore the movie and hope it failed on its own rather than make a big stinky protest and possibly give it more attention.

That didn't work too well, did it.

I think they're killing it with kindness. Yes, it's a well made film-but no it doesn't deserve near 10 oscar nods. I think everyone is riding on the 'Gay is the new Schindler'.
Seriously- Schindler's List was a great film, but to be nominated for Best Makeup and Best Lighting and it's BW??? Come on!

^_^

This is the way it is with most big Oscar movies. Rarely do they deserve ALL the stuff they get nominated for, but that's just the way the game is played. I just roll my eyes and be happy that some good stuff is recognized at all.

I'm completely bummed Tom Cruise wasn't nominated for War of the Worlds. His talent for yelling at a little girl and shielding her from the outside world was astounding.
I guess when life imitates art so closely, Oscar committees won't reward for lack of stretch.

OH SNAP. Haha. I loved WotW myself, but then I have a major boner for alien invasion movies.

Not many people know this but it was actaully filmed in color, and the b&w is all make-up and set paint.

Wow, I guess he'll have to give back that award for highest grossing Black and white film of all time. ^_^
Another wee bit of triv: This film is banned in Malaysia along with Kill Bill, Basic Instinct, Zoolander, and Ally McBeal!

That wasn't a real award that was just a mug that he keeps next to "World's Greatest Dad"

I don't get why Zoolander is banned, of course i never sat through the whole thing so i might have missed teh scene where owen wilson pees on a Malaysian flag.

That was on the DVD.

I really REALLY want to see "Good Night, and Good Luck" win best picture. BEST DAMN MOVIE EVER. Better, even, than "Dangerous Beauty" (although that might totally depend on my mood).

GO SEE IT! NOWNOWNOWNOWNOW!

It was interesting watching the constant creep of it on the imdb maps. The first couple of weeks after its release, it showed in the obvious big coastal cities and Denver. Two months later, it's spread until it's almost everywhere.

Good reviews and sold-out performances will apparently convince a lot of wary cinema owners!

I can't *wait* for Oscar Night, for once. (It's usually an ordeal that I put myself through solely because my best friend from high school usually has an Oscar party that night). I want to see Brokeback kick ass and take names, and then I want to see the glorious orgy of conservative head-go-splodey that will follow. BWAHAHAHAAA!!!

I think a conservative complainer would expect BBM to do well in the Oscars - they're voted on by industry insiders, who are all, as we all know, morally bankrupt sodomites who are dragging this great nation into their whirlpool of loose morals and villainy. In fact, it might even reinforce their worldview if it tanked in wide release but won a shedload of Oscars - see, those liberal Hollywood bigshots don't speak for Real America!

Popularity in the general public is what they wouldn't expect, and what is probably making them chafe right about now, if any chafing is to be had. And I hope there is, because I am a terrible, vindictive person. Who hasn't seen the movie yet and is bitter about it.
