omg techie help

Back when I had to install a new hard drive and slave the wonky drive to it and had to reinstall lotsa stuff, my DVD drive stopped recognizing anything was inside it whenever I popped something in. I'm guessing I need to install drivers or something to wake it up, but I don't know specifically what. James? Other smart people? Any suggestions?

XP? Try and get it to redetect. Right-click on My Computer, click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, then click on the Device Manager button, click the little + sign DVD-ROM drives, find the drive that's not working, click on it and hit Delete. The click on Action and Scan for Hardware Changes. In most cases XP will autodetect and autoinstall the drivers.

No luck with that. My computer recognizes that the DVD drive is there, but when I put something in and double-click the drive icon it just asks me to put something in.

Blah... Micro$oft has this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q218617/ guide to troubleshooting DVD/CD problems.

I had something like that happen when I set up a new cd drive as well, it turned out to be that I mixed up the master/slave for the drives. I can't really tell you WHAT to do...but if you switched them around, maybe that'd help?
