Wow. On some of these, they look like a completely different person. You'd think professional photographers would know how to light black people right the first time. That seems like part of the problem with the originals - wrong lighting.
Yeah, that is a common problem, you need a more golden light, some of the 'befores' seemed too harsh, though it is hard to know what the lighting was really like. The outdoor shots (or really any shot where you aren't in full control of the lighting (e.g. a concert)), well, sometimes you just have to shoot what you have. (Also, and I've noticed this tendancy in myself as well, since Photoshop is so good now, it is very tempting (and easier) to just get 'the shot' and 'fix' it later.)
