Wowzers

I hate how fandom always waits for me to be busy until it goes `splodey.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] medie linked to this earlier. I love her "that's it, you win at teh Internets, I'm leaving" farewell post.

And people gave her money. They actually gave her money.

[identity profile] jl-anderson.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, people are amazing. You don't write fan fic for money... that's just dumb.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm pawning off my trigun doujinshi if you are interseted or know anybody that would be. See my recent LJ entry. I want them to go away. x__x

I saw that this morning. I think I'll try that. "Pay me to commit copyright infringement!"

Hey, it's real easy!

I suspect in a few years she may be known as That Bitch Who Killed Fandom.

This is the second person to think they could make money off of fanfic in what, two weeks? A month, anyway.

It's really frustrating to see someone write fanfic and original work and somehow think that they deserve be on Easy Street.

[identity profile] enogitna.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I really think it comes from the BNF syndrome. You get famous on teh internets (as in, the boards and communities about your specific fandom) and feel like the whole world owes you one. Like ... you REALLY are famous and peope in the grocery store could mob you. Okay, this made more sense in my head.

--;

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I know what you mean. I spend way too much time on the internet myself, but I remind myself from time to time that I'd have to explain to most people what fanfiction even is, let alone why I think anyone should try to be good at it.

[identity profile] angstymcgoth.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It must be something in the water, or at least in the air--I saw some quote about not being able to wait until school started again and all the crazies went back to class. Have to admit, that's frighteningly accurate!

[identity profile] fadingembers.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh, I was more interested in the National Lampoon vs. Adult Swim one. AS totally pwned!!!

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
They totally did! But seriously, how sad would it have been if they hadn't?

[identity profile] fadingembers.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Tru dat.

This is an announcement that I will post to [livejournal.com profile] 100bullets for 50 cents a drabble. I accept cash and Paypal.

See me hotlink! I am so bad.

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 04:38 am (UTC)(link)

Give me porn!

Re: See me hotlink! I am so bad.

[identity profile] buttercup0222.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
*cries*

My first commission! I am going to mount and frame this shiny 50 cent piece, and one day when I am a famous Trigun drabble porn writer, I will display it to inspire others like me!

And people at home give me grief because I'm not turning a profit (or breaking even) on my cosplay commissions. *headdesk* Actually, this story makes me feel like even more of an ass for asking for compensation at all, however low. Will slink off quietly now.

So yes. I want a million dollars to play video games for the next year. And I promise to do just that. You won't be disappointed, internet.

Don't be dumb. :P Cosplay is entirely different--for one, it's not illegal, and also takes a hell of a lot more time, effort and money than fic. No reason to go overboard with pricing, but if you're making stuff for other people, it's perfectly acceptable to charge a decent rate.

zomg. That story is so touching...so inspiring...if I donate, will you dedicate the defeat of your first mini-boss to me?

[identity profile] sarahtheboring.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well, assuming it's badfic and good costuming, I guess.

Oh oh - Gold Circle donation level members get a sweet but ineffectual healer named after them! Act now!!

Caught this last night after it was first posted.

The mind boggles.

Double boggling was that it was someone I had actually HEARD of doing it.
