Hem hem.

I was going to buy the new Phoenix mini because, hey. It's the Phoenix. I like the Phoenix. It might bring Jean back for real by the end, though I'm not holding my breath.

Then I read the Mile High Comics full preview for issue #2 and The Rage returned. (Scott, how about admitting you think about your wife because YOU LOVED HER and not because "we didn't get a chance to say goodbye"?) Do NOT get me started on how he "chose [her], Emma." It's going to take a while to clean up the projectile vomit as it is.

I may have to rethink this.

I'll buy the mini, if only because I need single issues of something to buy when I go to the comic shop [I can't pay $15 per week for various trades but I just can't go in there and not buy something, especially if I spend the entire afternoon in there talking with the regulars]... but I'm not holding out much hope of them bringing Jean back.

If they do, though, I hope she gives Emma the asskicking of her life. I would say to include Scott in that, but she should keep him around to torture :P

The real Emma Frost died years ago. Way back when she was put into a coma by Trevor Fitzroy. Some weird pod mutant has been masquerading as her since then.

My theory is that while she was asleep, Chuckles did some mental tinkering.

But she's more like the Real Emma these days then she was during the Gen X days.

That does make sense, knowing him.

And yeah, she kinda is. I'm not angry with Emma (well, as much as one can be angry with fictional characters) because hey, she's not the one who took the vows. Though I've never quite understood what made her fall for Scott--I wasn't buying the issues then, just sometimes flipping through them at the store.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you hate her in GenX? Cuz I kinda liked here there. Well, for the first 25 issues or so. I couldn't say after that, because once M became twins I just rolled my eyes and couldn't read any more.

[identity profile] paradisacorbasi.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I kinda thought she was cool in Gen X.

I don't like that she seemed to have a genuine change of heart because she cost the Hellions their lives, and now is back to being the same White Queen who was with the Hellfire Club, but for the "good guys".

It was so cathartic to tell her off in [livejournal.com profile] sages_of_chaos.

I absolutely fucking refused to read Gen X because of the "reformed" Emma. To me, she ceases to exist after those two issues of X-Men, when the last of her Hellions "died" and she was put into a coma. I steer clear of most everything that might have her in it these days. She makes appearances in the New Mutants book, but that's just all around painful for me, I hardly even notice how awful she is.

I'm actually a huge fan of what they did with Scott and Emma. Jean and Scott always bored the crap out of me.

Unfortunately it seems way out of character for Emma.

Emma historically has gone for the rich and powerful. Like Sebastian Shaw. Warren Worthington's more her usual prey than somebody skinny and insecure and only powerful in the sheer firepower since.

Not so much out of character for Scott. He has a weakness for blondes and he's drawn to telepaths because with them he doesn't have to do the hard work of emoting and communicating.

I died too. And then again, when I saw your userpic. (Icon love!)

Obviously I do like Scott and Jean, so the fact that they broke them up at all is not something I like, but the thing that bothers me is the way they did it. I don't care if he was possessed, Scott was still behaving massively out of character. If Morrison wanted to break them up, there are better ways to do it than "oh noes Jean you can nevar understand teh pa1n of being possessed!!!" Because that just makes me headdesk. Repeatedly. Yeah, there were other elements involved, but that was the main one. I actually quite enjoy the Scott and Emma interaction in Astonishing, it's just the way they got there that pisses me off. Obviously. ;)

I have the hardcover of New X-Men Vol. 1 (it was a bargain at a local used bookstore) and, yeah, there's some funky emotional rationalization there. And I'll never understand why they needed to resurrect the long-dead Jean/Logan UST. But I'm reading it retroactively after reading Whedon's work on Astonishing, so I'm a bit more forgiving of the more implausible bits.

It's OOC because I don't know what I'm doing! Hurrah!

Ironically, Scott was almost blinded by the light.

The fiery figure before him floated down slowly, and he couldn't quite place the expression on her face.

Picking up on his thoughts, Emma whispered, "She's bloody pissed, Scott."

"Oh."

"You bastard," Phoenix spat. "How many times have I died and come back and you couldn't even wait for me?"

"Well, um, you know, I thought this past time, you really were dead and all, and so--"

"And so you screwed the first thing you found? Did you at least wait until the funeral was over? Give me one good reason why I shouldn't blow you to Kingdom Come."

"Cher, time waits for no mutant, and neither do cruises to the Bahamas!"

She pondered this for a moment before flying away to her date. Pointing a finger at Cyclops, she said, "You're lucky this time. Coming dear!"

I love you, and I really REALLY REALLY love the random interjections of Gambit. <3
