My computer monitor wouldn't forgive me for hitting it so many times, as I tried to make that blonde whiny bitch FEEL IT, while watching season seven. Now that I have season seven on DVD, my television upstairs hates me. Not as much as I hate Buffy. God, she was un-fucking-bearable in season seven. Overdramatic, wannabe-know-it-all BITCH.
Sorry ... it's just that when I find a place where I can vent about that vapid whore, I go all out.
God really. Buffy wasn't always as bad as she got, and even in the last couple of seasons she wasn't awful every single moment, but...yeah, she completely deserved the bitchslapping. And fuck if I don't still enjoy Spike/Buffy. I just replace Canon Buffy with Sane Buffy in my head.
You're really scaring me. I'm trying to hack my way through season two right now in an attempt to pacify my best friend, who is insistent that I give Buffy a second chance [however, he is the one who insisted that Angel would be my show, and fuck if he wasn't right], and if she gets worse as it goes on, I don't know if I can take it. She's just... so... vapid. Sure she can kick vampires in the head, but that's probably because she can defy gravity because she doesn't have that big heavy brain weighing her down.
...and if she gets worse as it goes on, I don't know if I can take it. She's just... so... vapid
Yes, yes she is. But, see, you have to ignore the blond, and focus on the Scoobies and the villians. Because Willow? Kicks ass. And Xander? Makes teh funneh. Season 7 is just whiny, s'all.
Willow's all right until around season 6, aside from her tendency to make puppy eyes and have everyone magically forgive her, but then she just fucking sucks. I blame Marti Noxon.
True. Season 6 is all about teh angst (and Willow whining into the drive-thru order thing about how hard it is to quit makes me laugh every time), and Season 7 is really just about the last episode. saw the season finale for 6 and thought "yeah, ok, Joss could end it there. Cliffhangers suck, but that's not bad." Kinda wish he had.
I bailed after that horrible season called five. The only reason I rode that one out until the end was for Glory. Hilarious villain. Didn't experience the uber-suckage that was season six, save for the super crappy musical (yes, I said it was crappy, because it WAS!).
Willow started to annoy me in season four. By the time I came back to the series in season seven, she was back to her old self. I'm sure it was the addition of Tara, whom I didn't object to as a character, but the "omgwhoalesbiansontheteevee!" relationship Joss felt as like he should properly shove down my throat was the last straw.
I actually really liked season five once it got past the rocky beginning (i.e. when Riley inexplicably became a total tool). Buffy self-centeredness aside, I liked the Dawn stuff back when she had a REASON to angst and whine, and I liked (most of) the Spike evolution to lurve. Like, I liked his speech about not being a man but she treats him like one, but not so much the tying up thing. And I still think the finale is one of the series' strongest and should've ended the series. Random fact--Glory is played by the daughter of my dad's golfing buddy. He says she looks like her dad.
We'll just agree to disagree on the musical. ;) I wouldn't say that it's broadway quality or anything, but for what the show was and what they were going for, I thought it was delightful.
Willow had already gone too far for me to ever like her again in season 7. Meh. I thought the lesbian thing was handled very deftly until later in the relationship, and aside from the fact that she seemed to forget that she ever dated guys. The whole evolution of the relationship, that I liked, though I didn't really dig Tara until she got a spine.

I don't remember her whining a lot in season seven. She was my favorite character for a while during that season, though. I thought she was more grown up at Buffy more than once.

I've seen musicals done well on other series'. I was actually campaigning for a Buffy Musical back in early season three. I thought it'd be a great idea. Another problem I had with it is that, by season six, I'd come to dislike most of the characters for one reason or another. If Joss had done it earlier, I might've been less critical.
The most important question about season seven is this: Did you like Kennedy?
She didn't whine too much in S7, but there were moments in S6 where I wanted to throttle her. Your sister is having dangerously realistic hallucinations, Dawn, BY ALL MEANS let's shriek about how because you're not in them it MUST mean she doesn't love you. Whatev.
Yeah, not liking the characters could make quite a difference. By then I was wavering on many but I still liked it, so perhaps I'm just easy. ;)
No. I didn't hate Kennedy with the fire of a thousand suns, but she was so obviously a lesbian plot device and Slayer Sue that she was no fun either.
Sure she can kick vampires in the head, but that's probably because she can defy gravity because she doesn't have that big heavy brain weighing her down.
I'm so glad I wasn't drinking something when I read that. I nearly fell off of my chair, laughing. :D!!! Wonderful reasoning as to why Buffy can be Super!Flying!Slayer! I was able to tolerate Buffy most of the time, but she did a serious downward spiral with each new season. Whining and bitching and moaning. Okay, you're a Slayer, your life sucks because of it, but you're oh so willing to sacrifice your personal happiness for the greater good. SHUT UP NOW. And give the rest of the gang more screen time, bitch. I could go on forever about Sarah Michelle Gellar personally, as she was just as vapid and annoying as her alter ego. However, I'll refrain.
I'm trying to hack my way through season two right now in an attempt to pacify my best friend,
Hmm. You're on season two. Hang on until season three? For me? And for the Faith fans everywhere? Because Faith? Oh hell yes. The way the Slayer ought to be!
Angel, I absolutely loved until about mid-season two. I thought they dropped the ball with the "I don't care, I'm not saving people anymore" story arc Angel went through. It was too neat and cleanly wrapped up before the season finale. I won't even start on season three. I gave up on that series (which was unbelievably great until that point, IMHO) after Darla removed herself from the picture (my favorite vampire).
I tell everyone this - Angel began to heavily borrow from Xena: Warrior Princess at that point. The shows were already similar because the main characters themselves were similar - once evil person seeking redemption through helping those who can't help themselves, and with side-kicks! - but when Darla was miraculously pregnant, then an old enemy miraculously showed up and swore to destroy everything Angel loved ... I thought, "Wow, been there, saw this. Xena did it three years ago."
I liked season 4, incest squick aside, which could be largely due to the phenomenal Gina Torres, who rocks my socks. Plus I played Connor in an RPG that helped me humanize him and see things through his eyes, as well as making him funny.

Okay, I rambled longer than I'd planned to.
