Had an interesting thought

They say that the opposite of love is not hate, but indifference. I know that I (and a good many other people) could never hate anyone--at least, I haven't thus far. (Interrupt my taping on Buffy night and you might find out.) But I can be indifferent to someone. Is that worse?

if you are not friends with someone indifference to them or antipathy (slightly different) is the next thing. It depends of what your standards of community and fellowship are in your culture as to how you treat strangers. class origin education etc.. people set themselves apart for small and large and serious and trivial reasons.

Indifference. Isn't that the void of all emotion? I don't know if it's worse than being hated. Because indifference doesn't mean that the person hates you, they don't necessarily like you, but they don't hate you. They just don't seem to care one way or another. I can see how it might hurt more than being hated, because with hatred at least you're getting an emotion. Just because someone is indifferent though, doesn't mean they don't care. That doesn't really make sense... :( Oh well, I tried.
