Wow.  The original X-Men cartoon series was really, really bad.

So of course I am LOVING that they're airing the reruns on ABC Family.  Even though this show CONSTANTLY gives me that uncomfortable feeling of being embarrassed for everyone involved.

At least they got Jean out of the damned ponytail. (Today was the first Phoenix episode.)

Hrm.  I still kind of want to beat Cyclops with a stick and shout "Why should YOU be concerned?  You fucked Emma frost!"

i take it that you read astonishing x-men comics too???

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's the first X-Men book I've liked enough to buy in YEARS. Quite a feat, considering I want to stick Emma and Scott on pikes.

[identity profile] fee.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
you aren't alone on that!

which reminds me i need to pick up #6 today while downtown.

[identity profile] offscreen.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my God yes. I like her solo title but put Emma anywhere in the vicinity of Scott and... just... *stab*stab*stab*

Scott, meanwhile, is an asshat of the first order.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Scott, you've cheated on two wives shortly before their deaths now. You might want to get a little concerned about this.

[identity profile] offscreen.livejournal.com 2004-11-14 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously.

Although, you know, if everyone who fucks him dies, that means Emma is not long for this world. *ponders this, likes it*

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't want her to die, I just want her to stop sucking. In more than one way.

[identity profile] angstymcgoth.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha!! I've totally been watching them in the mornings as well! Even worse? The old Spiderman cartoons. Those are actual cringe-inducing.

Oh God. Mein eyes. I hate to be reminded of the state of Frost in current X-books.

::cries::

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It could only be worse if they made her nice and sweet. At least she's still bitchy, though that's not much consolation.

Don't even talk to me about the Emma Frost series. I just rock back and forth and remind myself that it's just AU fanfiction.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You know who she reminds me of in current books? Cordelia Chase, in season one Buffy. I hated season one Cordelia. ::stab!::

I read the first two books of that ... and I cried. They've completely character-raped one of my all time favorite X-characters. I hate them. All of them.

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh my God you're right!!

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we should create our own happy X-Men universe. Emma is properly bitchy, but not just that, and Pete Wisdom and Kitty are still together, and Gambit doesn't have poodle hair, and Cyclops isn't a fuckwit (well, no more than usual) and the New Mutants just plain wouldn't suck.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Right on! We kick out all the shitty writers and take over! Weir and what's his face on the new New Mutants book are the first to go. God. I hate them almost as much as I hate the people who ruined Frost. Can we de-Sue-ify Rogue while we're at it? Jesus, she was such a Canon Sue in the X-Treme title, I hoped that Bishop would blow her up. Or Storm would blow her away. Can we make Kitty bearable, too? I've never really liked her, but sheesh, was she in super-overdrive Angsty Mode during the Mekanix arc.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes to all those requests. For me, I want it to be revealed that Jean faked her death to get away from her asshole husband. And we're putting her in the hands of a good writer, because I have always maintained that she's only a Sue when asshat writers don't put the effort into it and instead just yap about phenomenal cosmic powers. Dammit! And there will be MUCH drunken Pete Wisdom, because there can never be too much. Oh, and reaching WAY back in the day, Synch's not dead.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like it to be revealed that Frost was in a coma since the point Trevor Fitzroy attacked her and her Hellions - way the hell back in Uncanny #278. She dreamed the last fifteen odd years of horrible storyline and characterization for her. Then! We find out that none of the other Hellions died, they're alive and well and willing to join her new evil arch-nemesis syndicate ... thing. I'm pissed that Tarot hasn't been used as a character since X-Force #90. Bullshit, I say!

Yeah, if they did all that, I might actually not want to kick everyone at Marvel's ass. Oh, and while they're at it, they can stop letting people make crappy movies out of their titles. Take notes from Hellboy and DarkHorse, people.

[identity profile] varyar.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I like this thread!

Can we pretend that the "Rahne Sinclair" who appeared in last year's New Mutants relaunch was an alien clone?

Can we ignore the existence of this new Excalibur series, which has nothing to do with Classic Excalibur?

Can we kill Gambit?

Can we get Rachel Summers out of that godawful Marvel Girl costume?

Can we get rid of Chris Claremont?

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)

She's out on her ass along with Weir and Nunzio (I remembered what's his face's name). What the hell were they THINKING with that? They just utterly Sue-ified Rahne in that book. I hate them. All of them.

While we're talking about new New Mutants, pull the only decent characters out of that title - Surge, Kevin Ford and David - and stick them in the new title I'll be writing: The New Mutants - The Way It Should Be. Karma, Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Sunspot and Magma will all be stars.

So do I. "Let's turn Rahne from a shy Presbyterian girl to a biker grrrrl wearing an ankh and stuff!!1!" Um, no.

What about Cannonball? Is he even in a series now that X-Treme folded?

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He's staying with whatever new group Storm formed after X-Treme ended. He can stay the hell out, though. Because when Sam's around, that annoying Lila Cheney shows up. Urge to kill ... rising. You know what else they should do? Resurrect Magik. Sure, she bugged me, but she was a part of the original New Mutants. I need somebody to yell at during the book, anyway.

Can we resurrect Doug Ramsay and Warlock, too? Cuz... c'mon. The world demands it.

::headslap::

How could I forget Doug and Warlock?!?! Yes, Doug and Warlock - RESURRECTED! That'll cut down on reasons for Kitty Pryde to angst, too.

Good catch!

Always a good thing, yes.

She should be running the X-Men by now, if you ask me.

Good catch!

I live to give.

Speaking of angst--let's not forget the pairings! We need GOOD pairings. Good pairings can still have angst and all that shit, but they won't be the stupid-ass crap they have now.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Jean/Remy. No, really. Read Dande's Alchemy Arc fics and you'll see why I like them. Plus it'd piss off Scott and as much as I enjoy Rogue and Gambit separately, the Soap Opera Years drove me up a fuckin' wall.

Beast needs a good love interest too. He never gets enough attention. You know, there's another X-team that needs to exist in our world right there--the original X-Men, sans Scott. Warren has to promise not to be a tool to get in, though.

And Cable! Where the HELL is Cable these days and why isn't his boot up Scott's ass? Now THAT would be in character. And I want decent tough guy working on his mental powers Cable, not gun barrels out his ass Cable.

The one thing that I liked about Ultimate was that Beast was set up with Storm.

You know, there's another X-team that needs to exist in our world right there--the original X-Men, sans Scott. Warren has to promise not to be a tool to get in, though.

And not to have airborne sex with the younger sister of other teams' members.

I lost track of Cable after he left X-Force. Last I heard, he traded in his guns for a fucking boomstick. He should shove that stick straight up Scott's ass. Oh, wait, there's already one in his ass.

Preach! I'm... mildly fond of the idea of Hank and Jean, actually.

Warren has to promise not to be a tool to get in, though.

I thought that was his mutant power.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-15 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Hank and Jean have a fabulous relationship but I see them too much as brother/sister to not be squicked by a romantic relationship. I mean, if there was good fic, I'd read it. I just can't make the leap on my own.

[identity profile] backfromspace.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved that show as a kid. There's no subtlety or anything because it's targeted at kids, but they had some incredibly convoluted plots and whatnot.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-13 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. Just as fun are the plots they stole from the comics and smooshed down to be bite-sized cartoon plots.
