You know, I enjoyed the premiere of Full Metal Alchemist on Adult Swim last night.  (I refuse to write it Fullmetal Alchemist.  That's stupid.  It's THREE WORDS not two.)  But shit like this is why I sense I will stay far, far away from the fandom.  Pfft.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka, can I take you up on your offer of fansubs now that it's turned out that mine are in spanish?  Gracias.

[identity profile] uiggu.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
So are you objecting to the needless wanky complexity of their BAS-BS-whatever system, or something else...?

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the needless wanky complexity. Dude, regardless of intentions, I'd think that would result in elitist wankery if this was my first exposure to the comm. Given that I've seen wank after wank of them freaking out about how n00b fans could "ruin the fandom", there's no fucking way I believe it's a good thing. Besides, it's insulting. I may be new to FMA, but you know, I think I'm smart enough to avoid spoilers if I don't want to see them.

[identity profile] uiggu.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG the n00bs! NOOOOOO! Yeah, these are the type of people who complain when the anime they like gets an English release. Losers.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I remember that a lot of people did. Jeez, FMA wankers, if Trigun fandom can put up with Shadsie and MF, FMA can put up with your run of the mill noob.

[identity profile] uiggu.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/554733.html

Damn, that was quick! And you've got one of the implementers of Wanky Spoiler System coming on to defend said system. Yay wank!

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's where I found it, actually. Ah, f_w, I heart you. Though I want MF to do something wanky so she can break her own record.

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Give it a week.
That seems to be her average.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
But Moooooom, I'm bored nooooooow!

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly. Where the rest of us pimp like mad and throw parties when we convert people to the dark side new fandoms, these people like to consider n00bs two steps below garden snails on the evolutionary ladder, conveniently forgetting that 1) they were once new to the fandom and 2) they were once thirteen.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
...Wow, that is one of the snobbiest things I've ever seen. It's so utterly pathetic that I have to agree with you re: staying away from the fandom, at least on LJ.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka, would you also be willing to FMA to me for something? [livejournal.com profile] jaina gave me her fansubs. ^_^;

This is the series I got to see while I was in Japan earlier this year.

Wonder where that put me on the pecking order. Bah.

(BTW, I got to see someone really big die - boo hoos and all - but I can't stand the Funimation dubs, so I'd like those fansubs too. Trade shoes for them. Don't have a clue who it was or why it was so important. And I've been patient!)

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
And lo, the Lord said, "Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone."
And then, there was wank.

I'm trying to imagine why. But then, I realize that I'm applying logic to the BA-BS system (which, BTW, doesn't even make sense as a university degree program), and yielding.

FMA rocks my socks! Even dubbed, it seems like a funfunfun series. *And* the Ghost in the Shell thing that followed, *and* the episode of Inuyasha was the one with Pimptastic!Miroku...*sigh*
Good TV night, all around.

Is FMA a 26-ep series, or one of those "we're not done writing the manga, so hang on until, oh, 2009" series?

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's more than 26 episodes--I think 51 or 52--but it's done now. Not sure how it relates to the manga.

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
50, 52... totally doable. And I'm still fucking astonished pleased with the lack of whining and bad falsetto in the FMA dubbing!

See, I ask about episode count, because the first series I got hooked on was Inuyasha. Back when episode 70 was released. (They're done now, I think, at about one seventy. Arrgh.) Getting to a cliffhanger, and then realizing that you not only have to buy another disc, but that the disc isn't available in *any* language yet, because the manga is still being written, is rather frustrating. :]
So if some jinky fancomm is insisting on header-labels as spoiler warnings, I can (hopefully) assume there isn't much more than 50 eps.

[identity profile] uiggu.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
'Tis 51 eps, and 51 is a doozy.

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
The anime diverges drastically from the manga at manga Chapter 15. I'm still trying to find all of the manga online, so I can catch up with it. Apparently, some neat shit's going down in that and I feel left out. :(

[identity profile] uiggu.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, ya think it's fun until TEH ANGST suddenly leaps up and angsts all over you. FMA > Trigun in angstiness. I swear. It's angst of Cowboy Bebop/Evangelion proportions. But it's still great! Watch FMA, kids!

[identity profile] andmydog.livejournal.com 2004-11-08 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's angst of Cowboy Bebop/Evangelion proportions.

Really? Yesss!

Nooooooooooooo...! ::quiet weeping::

[identity profile] rainjewel.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's going to be wank in about .0192384092834 seconds. I suppose I understand the reasoning, but I think that people click the "this could spoil you" button that's their own fecking fault. Meh.

Every time an elitist wanks, a fangirl writes in Japanese.

Or something.

Should I be getting on board for this roundrobin of fansubs or just wait 'til the DVDs come out? 'Cause, uh, I didn't think the dub was that bad (and Al sounds freakin' adorable).

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-11-07 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally was going to send you fansubs. Until I found out they were in Spanish. >.< The premiere dubbed is all I've seen, so I can't say which is better, but I enjoyed the dub. And yes, Al is totally cute.

(I refuse to write it Fullmetal Alchemist. That's stupid. It's THREE WORDS not two.)

Dude. It is. The fact that it's fullmetal in the english logog is because it's fullmetal in the english type of the japanese logo. But that's because the japanese are silly and inconsistant-- you actually *see* it written "Full Metal Alchemist" on the show, on a document Edward gets. All of the language in FMA is done in English text, like on Trigun.

Okay, now I need to go read the rest of the series.

I'm on book 6-- about halfway through. I hope my mom is finished with book 7 (last one!) by Thanksgiving, or at least Christmas, cause I will _need_ it soon.

I adore the Dark Tower books soooo much. I made that icon and a few variations of it I can show you later (I'm on a lab comp right now, not my own).

I've been having a serious fangirl reaction to the books lately. I've been wanting to post in my journal about it, but too busy reading it to want to post before I finish at least book 6. It's so awesome though.

I got the icon in this comment from someone else; can't remember who off the top of my head.

I bet you'll get a kick out of this one though:

Best. book. quote. ever.

Oh yeeees. There's nothing quite like being a cross-fandom geek.

I've fallen way behind, I think partly because I never actually expected him to finish the series (since he started it in, what, the early 70s?). I've gotten through Wizard and Glass and went all squee over The Stand references but I haven't gotten a chance to read the rest.

Hmmm. Got to stop by the fiction section before I leave the library today...

I started Wizard and Glass a long time ago, then took nearly a year for break. This summer I finished that, read Wolves of the Calla, and now I'm reading Song of Susanna half-way through. I loved the Wizard of Oz metaness at the end of Wizard And Glass. That was awesome.

By the way, have you gotten the FMA eps I linked from my journal? I'm going to be uploading 3 more today.
