Fic meme
1. You're a handsome devil. What’s your name?
OMG LOOK AT THE URL, FOO'! As for real name, if you need to know it, you do. Not that it's harder to find out.
2. Ever write under any other name?
When I was in XF fandom, my nick was extended a little, to "Jaina the Blue Moose." Don't ask why. I do have a blue moose that my mom made for me one Christmas.
3. Look around you. How the hell did you end up here?
I am teh superior to all of you because I was an lj early adopter! Or not. Back in the day, the whole #xf-r gang was joining up, so I did as well. I got to fandom itself the way most people did--I wrote fanfiction in my head when I was younger, did a littl ebit on my computer back in Windows 3.0, and eventually found the internet, where I was gobsmacked to discover huge fanfiction communities.
4. Are you nice like me?
The B in Blue Moose really stands for "bitch."
5. Have you ever had to explain fanfiction to someone in real life?
I try not to. I get enough weird looks as it is.
6. Have you ever co-written anything?
Ayup. Various fics that were never finished with LeanneB and Grey. My first (bad) lemon with Kiri. Stuffs with the lovely
arafel and
fadingembers, including a v. v. lengthy non-romance Knives x Meryl fic that has been thisclose to being finished for ages now. We really gotta get on that.
7. How far have you gone to research a story, baby?
I looked up a recipe for donouts.
Meh. For my fanfiction, the stories either haven't required much research or I was a stoopid teenie who really needed to worry about other things more than research (i.e. early fics sucked, no you can't see them).
8. Which character that you write are you most like?
I don't think I'm just like her, but I strongly relate to Meryl from Trigun. There are certain aspects we have in common. (Sometimes being a control freak, emotional uncertainty, spazzing out.)
9. Which character that you write are you least like?
I suppose Knives, since he's so, you know, evil. And I may be bitchy but I've never planned to commit genocide, so I think I get a pass there. I still love the crazy bastard, though.
10. Any original characters?
In fic, not so much, except for supporting roles. (Brian! Emily! Form of--an inside joke!) It takes a special fic to get me to really care about featured original characters. I've seen fics that were very well written but overwhelmed with original characters and those were just boring to me, because when I come looking for fanfiction, I want to read about the actual canon characters. I read ink-and-paper books for original stuff. There always exceptions, though. See: Sand and Light (though that really didn't ignore the canon characters in favor of the OCs.)
11. Did you ever name an original character after someone you know in real life, and then one day you mention it in passing because it's funny for some reason at that moment, and (s)he gets all freaked out about it, because, look at what you write--?
That's an awfully weird, specific question. Nope.
12. What’s your favourite line from the last story you wrote?
“I’m pregnant,” Meryl announced.
“It’s mine,” Vash added helpfully. She gave him a dirty look.
Eh, so it's not super meaningful. It amused me and seemed like something Vash would say, so I like it.
13. Favourite line from the last story you read that was not your own?
Here lies Nicholas, who was a killer and a traitor, but who also liked whiskey and laughed like a king and loved children and loved Milly Thompson. By Rashaka.
14. Favourite line from the song you're listening to right now, or last listened to?
Not listening to anything right now, but the last thing I heard this morning was the music from a really good Trigun AMV. Thus:
What would you think of me now
So lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that
Now I'll never have a chance.
15. What's the last movie you saw that inspired something ficcish in you?
Donnie Darko. I have no plotbunnies for it, but it seems like something good to write about.
16. Is there a character you'd like to write, but can't-- and why the hell can't you?
Hrrm...I'm not very good at writing about Milly as a main character, though I can do her as a supporting one. I'd like to write some Lost fic but I haven't found any voices yet, plus there's the constant risk of being jossed.
17. We all hate favourite questions, I know, but-- who's your favourite character (a) to read? (b) to write?
For reading:
Trigun--Meryl. So few people really do her well. Also Knives when done well, which is even rarer.
FF VIII--Laguna. <3 <3 <3
Sailor Moon--Tuxedo Mask. Ave dark-haired men of angst!
Buffy/AtS--Spike, Connor.
For writing:
Trigun--Meryl. See above answers for why. Knives as well because he's evil but not stupidly or predictably evil. I also find Wolfwood intriguing to write, though I haven't done it much aside from unfinished drafts.
I guess I'm not writing much else for fanfiction right now.
18. Who's your least favourite character (a) to read? (b) to write?
For reading--Legato, because almost no one gets beyond the "omg creepy psychopath" cliche, or they write him as a weeping uke. I suppose that's the fault of authors and not the character, but the end result is the same. For writing, probably Milly again. Used to be Wolfwood but we had a drink and a smoke and seem to have come to an understanding.
19. Is there a story you'd like to write, but can't-- and why the hell can't you?
I'd like to see more "normal" stories. Like, Vash and Meryl fight. (
rashaka, I know you're with me on that.) Stuff that people who aren't the stars of a series have to deal with, but is interesting because they are the stars of a series. If that makes any sense.
I can write it, I guess, but I'm tired of always writing what I want to see and rarely getting to just read it. Wah wah wah, I'm so deprived.
20. What's a title you've always wanted to use, but haven't had the opportunity yet?
Paper Angels. I may yet use this, though I'm not certain the plot outline fits it anymore. I'm generally very bad at titles, though.
21. What was the first story you ever completed, and what do you think of it now?
The Princess Dinosaur. I dictated it to my mother on a car trip. I was like 4.
22. What was the last story you completed, and what do you think of it now?
Jacey's Baby, a piece of original writing that still needs a touch of editing but is otherwise done. I quite like it, and Wendell seems to think I have a shot at publication at a couple magazines he's mentioned, so I have hopes for it.
23. Where do you do most of your writing?
Usually just at my computer, but it tends to come in fits and spurts when I'm supposed to be doing other things, so I scratch it out and transcribe later.
24. Do you have any fic taboos?
Incest. I don't care if other people write about it, I just don't want to read about it.
25. What made you start writing fic? Were you filled with creative juices, or was it a random act of plot correction?
I dunno, I was 11 and it was a Sonic the Hedgehog story. At that age you don't ponder it much, you just do it.
26. Who has influenced your style the most?
Terry Pratchett for the snarkiness, though I can only begin to approach his level of wit. And
fadingembers in a way, because she has a way of ripping off scenes that are a thousand times better than anything I'd thought of for that scene.
27. What is the sexiest word?
"Sinuous".
28. What is the least sexy word?
Your mom.
29. What's the word you use too much/often?
My characters tend to sigh a lot when I'm not sure what's going to happen next.
30. You're a writer. By definition you are plagued and pursued by images. So what image is burned into your brain right now?
Me, relaxing with a margarita because slutfic is done and posted.
31. If you were going to write professionally under an assumed name, what would that name be?
Probably just my own name. If I end up using a pseudonym, I wouldn't tell you, now would I?
32. If you'd made out this survey, what question would you have asked that I didn't?
"What's your favorite plot that you've imagined but haven't written yet?"
OMG LOOK AT THE URL, FOO'! As for real name, if you need to know it, you do. Not that it's harder to find out.

But really, what is there beyond the creepy psychopath? That's how I'd write him. He *is* a creepy psychopath.
Totally with you on the "normal" angst. It's another thing of taking people out of their normal canon context.

Bwahahaha! That is such a thing chibi-Jaina would do. At least, the way I picture chibi-jaina.
That song you quoted, "May Angels Lead You In" I totally completely forgot who sings it, but it used to make me freakin' *bawl* everytime I heard it. I have that same problem with most Disney movies, too....
