The Otakon post OF DOOOOOOOM. Warning: Note for the faint of heart or dial-up users
So yes, I am a week late. I was lazy busy. But hey, now I have pictures!

arafel, irenak, fadingembers, pale_jezebel, and sache (in order of appearance) for Otakon. We had a lot of fun.

So! Anyway.
Wednesday
Got up at the asscrack of dawn (or 5:15, whatever) to fly to Newark, where the lovelyarafel picked me up and off we went to Mitsuwa Market. After a minimum of hassle, (Oh, no! Not mapquest!) we found the place. Much like its Chicago counterpart, it was yummy food and nifty stores, though I didn't buy much besides pocky. Coconut milk and chocolate orange are some tasty new flavors, though I still curse the loss of butterscotch. Afterwards, we stopped by her apartment where she presented me with a byootiful pane of stained glass and I got to meet her hubby. He is cute and makes good pokey sticks. At last, we shipped out to her parents' house where we were eventually joined by irenak, fadingembers, and pale_jezebel. I finally got to see the pilot episode of Firefly, and omg heart heart heart. Though I kept waiting for Mal to rip someone's eye out and I wondered where Zoe's maggots were. I also finished Haibane Renmei. Tear. ALL OF YOU GO WATCH IT NOW PLZ KTHX. The highlight of my evening was watching irenak and fadingembers pretend to be Rem as Vash's Jewish mother. ("130 years and no grandchildren? And you're so skinny, have a falafel!" Funneh.
Thursday
After watching some Zim (all shall love him and despair!), we took off for Baltimore. Throughout the journey, fic was alternately discussed and bitched about, as well as an author or two. If you don't know who I'm talking about, it's YOU. ;) We did manage to get our pre-reg badges that night. The line was long but fast. I called Good Joe's cell to see what he was doing, only to pass him in the zig-zagging line about 30 seconds later.

Later that night,sache arrived and we finally met in person after close to five freaking years. w00t!
Friday
I got the fun experience of waiting in line again, sincesache had to get her pass and it's no fun to do that alone. Despite asking about it, we ended up in the wrong line for an hour (&$(&%&#!!!) Saw some good cosplay, at least.

I was cosplaying Queen from Suikoden III, so imagine my squeeing when I spotted a Geddoe up ahead. What are the odds, yo? He thought it was just as cool so naturally we got piccies.

Later on I found another one. Why couldn't there have been a Geddoe last year?
Twins!
The dealer's room was a little better than last year, but I think by the time you've been to a few conventions it just all starts to look the same. No doujinshi :( but I got some Lupin shinies and some cheap manga, as well as the Excel saga Imperfect collection for $60. There was a damn feeding frenzy at the place that was selling new manga (shigure, I got Kyo for you) and it was even worse at the Viz booth, with all the stuff they were giving out. I actually got trapped between the booth counter and the hanging-thing they put free bags on at one point.
We hit the wanky fanfic panel again, which was somewhat disappointing. It had some wank, but not as much as before, which is good--but that's less to mock. Boo! We did it anyways.fadingembers has the notebook we passed around during the panel and really needs to post the transcript. I'm seriously considering pitching a "How NOT to Write Fanfiction" panel for Ohayocon.

Saturday
Cosplay day!arafel, fadingembers and I made adorable Haibane, and it was even more fun when we found some other angels to take pictures with. irenak made an excellent Crazy 88, especially when in a group with the other 87. We watched the AMV contest round, and there were a few gems, though also a few stinkers that I can't figure out why they were in the running. Whatev.

We got a chance to meetlushdesolation when she managed to pick us out of a huge farkin' crowd, and had a nice if brief visit before dinner. Legal Sea Food is officially a tradition now, I guess, since we've gone there three days in a row. It's still yummy. We ate with some friends of arafel and I quite enjoyed meeting them. That night, we caught some fan parodies (ReDeath: Redux was fabu. NonDE's follow-up to This is Otakudom? Neg. I actually started dozing off during it.) and headed back to home sweet hotel to finish Utena (it's CRACK, but not as much as the movie) and do some live badfic readings, complete with fadingembers doing her scarf dance...for a little while, at least.

Alas, the end. After the traditional lengthy wait for the elevator, we did our final con things and then said goodbye toarafel and irenak before escorting sache to the bus station, which was filled with otaku. We only got lost once! (Damn mapquest!) fadingembers and I then lost pale_jezebel in Jersey before heading home. That night and the next morning, we slept lots and finished Pretear. And talked fic. And talked fic some more. And I tried to take pictures of her bitchy cat, but Willow is a diva. At last, I had to board my plane...and then I was kept waiting over and hour and missed my connection and that was lame. But I already talked about that.
