Good news, bad news

Good news: I got out of internship early today
Bad news: I still had to work
Good news: My jobs aren't as sucky as [livejournal.com profile] spicedrum's *huggles you*
Bad news: Two on the same day don't allow me time to do much else.
Good news: Next week we're driving to see my brother and his wife.
Bad news: THEY LIVE IN TEXAS.
Good news: I scanned a Wolfwood/Meryl doujinshi for [livejournal.com profile] rashaka, the chick who shares my insane fascination with this pairing
Bad news: My computer dieded briefly and scans went boom.
Good news: [livejournal.com profile] rainjewel will soon produce actual Wolf/Meryl fic (right?!?!)
Bad news: An interesting fic by a decent author was revealed to be (future) KxV. Not my thing.
Good news: D'oh, I read that wrong, it's Knives and Legato.

So, I have a mission for you folks. Rec me some fics to print out and read on the long-ass drive to Dallas. I don't want to buy ten reams of paper, so nothing Iolokus or Secrets long. Fandoms I like: Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Final Fantasy VIII, Buffy, Angel, etc. Share your brains with me!

This is my very old, outdated SF rec list.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/kenzier/9320.html

The fic I always recommend most is "The Lucky Ones" because even though it's a chapter fic, they're short chapters that flow easily. "Waltz for Mars" is also a good one-shot, but I'm certain it's still uber-long.

Anything else I'd rec is going to be on my FF.net favorite's list.

Hope that helps.

Hmmm.

Dancing Lessons - Spuffy that departs canon sometime around the middle of S5. A massive shared universe, with part three still a WIP. Very long, but good for those cross-country car rides.

London Calling - home of several Buffy and Angel fics. Good if you're a Giles or Wesley fan.

Things Left Undone - found via [livejournal.com profile] cadence. Angel, post series. Bittersweet, but oh so good.

Donna the Vampire Slayer - West Wing/Buffy crossover. More West Wing than Buffy, but exceedingly funny. Nomad also writes great straight-up Buffy as well.

A Raising in the Sun and others - home to [livejournal.com profile] rahirah's fic. Spuffy, and going mostly AU after, you guessed it, S5. But more pitch-perfect character dialogue you will not get.

Nicolette Says Jump - Spike, Xander, the OFC from hell and sex. Mm-mmmm! Tastes like smut! And Kalima's other works also kick the majority of ass, too.

Sooo, yeah, that's it from me. You'd think I'd have more Trigun or something, but I'm pretty sure everything I've read, you've read.

Actually, I did *not* mean [livejournal.com profile] cadence but [livejournal.com profile] cadesama. Because, I don't know, I experienced temporary selective amnesia.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-06-30 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, good recs, thanks.

Yeah, if you've read good Trigun that I haven't, I have dishonored myself.

When're you leaving for Dallas? There might be some new ficcage for you to read soon. Not mine. :)

AUGH. Read that last night. Shared with [livejournal.com profile] unclejimbo. Will never watch that last episode the same way again. Scarred. For. Life.

And laughed so hard we cried.

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2004-06-30 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwww, you're too sweet. I can't watch Live Through without laughing any more. It's all [livejournal.com profile] jaina's fault. (well, not really. :D)

Jaina and Arafel: Ruining episodes since 2002.

I don't know if [livejournal.com profile] bigbigtruck is still hosting the Agent Orange for Cowboy Bebop fics on her website (really should go check) - but they rock. I think they might still be out on FF.net - maybe.

Damn good.

Yup, there it is... (http://www.big-big-truck.com/bebop/ao/)

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-06-30 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read all of AO's stuff, bu I might have to print it and read again because it's just that good. *loves Ballad of John Doe with a sad patheticness*

[identity profile] sarcasticval.livejournal.com 2004-06-30 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe, I was also going to recommend Agent Orange, but other people with good taste beat me to the punch.

Only Stone on the Outside is not at all short (79 chapters so far?) but it's a fun and schmoopy Slayers romp. Hey, you can always print out a few chapters at home and a few more at your bro's house.

Search for Humanity is a fun Slayers fic featuring Zel and Amelia, but in a minor UST kinda way. Also has some very funny bits.

I know I rant and rave about The Last Vampire but I can't remember if you've actually read it or not. If not you should. Is good.

More good D fics can be found here and here.

Guardian. Auron x Jecht's wife!

Screw you fanfiction.net and your 'request timeout'! Ahem.

The Order of Lilith is a good but very unfinished Hellsing fic.

Hot Pursuit, X-men Evolution done right (hell, it incorporates the mythology better than the paid writers do). First of a series, starring my baby.

It's been forever since I've read Return so I can't say for sure if it's good anymore. I mean, the thing was written in '96. I do remember loving it though. So why post the link, you might ask? Simple. So I can summarize the fic by saying, my lord, Gambit is a vampire (half!)

Hope at least one of those helped!

*thoughtfully* You could read a good amount of fanfic on the way to Dallas, but there IS something called a bookstore, and they sell LARGE COMPENDIA of the written word. ^_^ I recently read "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire - interesting take on the Wizard of Oz.

Hee, I know, but I'm also about to drop a lot of money on a camera and a plane flight, so I'm trying to keep purchases light. I do have a few books I'm taking with me.

Did you know you can get a tool to convert text files to Palm readable ones?

Yesh, I'm considering it when I get the big site up. Downloadable Palm Reader fan fics. Go me!

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2004-07-01 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
OOOH. That is awesome.

Now to get a Palm.
