Will have a detailed post w/spoilers later, but short answer...I think it is. Keep in mind that while it's long been on my List of Stuff to Read, I've not read it yet, and thus went into the theater only knowing what I've read in Wizard, etc.

I would rate it a B. It wasn't the most thrilling, wondrous movie ever. There are things that could have been better, and some downright silly things. (Tom Sawyer being able to drive like an expert even though the automobile is unheard of technology? The way they animated UberHyde? I don't care if that was in the comic, it looked silly.) But overall...I did not want my money back. I enjoyed it. Peta Wilson NAILS it as Mina Harker and the special effects when she's doing her vampire thang are also quite spooky and cool-looking. In fact, I'd be thrilled if they made a sequel titled "Mina Harker Kicks Everyone's Ass." The movie didn't thrill me like some have, and from what I've heard PotC is undoubtedly better, but it was a pleasant experience and I'm glad I went. I'd go again, though maybe only if it was a matinee or someone else paid for it. ;)

I, er, haven't exactly read the comic either. Which makes me feel slightly guilty, since it's Alan Moore and my brother has been attempting to foist it upon me for years. Mostly I'm just glad any time a comicbook movie isn't an embarassment to the medium.

However, am quite looking forward to Mia the kickass vamp. May not see it in theatres . . . but the world always needs more cool vampires.
