So yeah

sarcasticval and I were planning on going to Anime North. I was especially looking forward to seeing hellbelle in the Jem show. Sadly, both sets of parents became irrationally frightened that we would get the SARS, and since they pay for our college education and it was their car...yeah. So, Anime Central instead. But I'd already submitted my first AMV, Hallelujah, to the contest. I made the video, but Val most definitely had a hand in coming up with the `plot' for the video, so she gets credit too. (The version I'm linking too has a weeny error but you might not even have noticed it if I didn't say this. The corrected AVI is here. Sometime I'd really like to clean up the video quality in general now that I know a little more.) Anyways. The video is mucho spoilery for Trigun, be warned. So, the video aired in the competition without us being there.
It won.
Not grand prize, of course. Momiji no Video--Judge's Choice. Apparently, there's a trophy or somesuch that will be mailed to me.

Now, I know that the video will get hammered at Otakon. I also know that for a first video, it's not entirely sucky. So you can see I generally have a balanced view of things. But let me take a moment now to be gratuitously egotistic, cuz fuck, I won a prize. With my FIRST AMV. First ever. No previous experience with the whole shebang. And people liked it. It's one thing for me to be satisfied and have my friends enjoy it, but it's so amazing to me that complete strangers actually like the video and want to download it. "Me? I did that?" Earlier I was all sniffly because of the end of Buffy tonight, but right now I'm just sitting here with a shit-eating grin on my face. I know I've got a lot to learn about making good anime music videos, and after the workshop at ACen, I'm eager to practice. And for this particular video, I lucked into a ridiculously perfect combination of story and song. But right now I'm not thinking about that. I'm just thinking...well, "EEEEEH!" mostly, to be honest.
