I bought my webspace from iPowerWeb, and so far they've been very reliable and reasonable. I think they're now offering 200 MB for $7.95/mo, and that includes the domain name. A lot of the time, these places will offer some great rate, and then hit you for some outrageous fee for the domain registration. iPowerweb also offers webmail services with the package. I recommend them highly.
I'll second that; www.thenortherncrater.com was set up at iPowerweb due to her recommendation, and it's worked wonderfully so far. Only issues I've had is that we don't get neat little subdomains for free or anything, and there have been a couple instances where for some reason I wasn't getting email from my Yahoo groups, but those are pretty minor.
That sounds pretty good...I might have some issues in the future if I make more AMVs, but I could always rotate those or hell, buy another domain for probably still cheaper.
i've been with the same domain host for over two years, and i love them. i adore them. i will never, ever switch. :D
i had some very specific requirements when i was looking:
1. ability to use standard telnet, SSH and FTP tools 2. ability to install custom CGI 3. decent amount of disk space/transfer per month/day
yes, i'm a damn geeky sap who made her first webpage with emacs, directly on the server, and didn't want to switch processes. ;) rest assured you can use whatever program you like and it all works :)
it's a little more expensive than the other hosts around, but i've had maybe fifteen minutes of downtime, total. their servers feed directly into several internet backbones, so your stuff loads up as fast as your connection will let it. when bill was using them, he once put in a service question that got responded to in seven minutes. on a SUNDAY MORNING.
I've been happy with Endore.com, so far. They leave me alone, I don't get much downtime, and they're dirt cheap. They don't let you have more than one domain registered for each basic account, though... which is a little lame, considering that I'm not even remotely close to using the resources I've paid for. Guess I'll have to use cjb.net redirection.
This said, I'll consider going with pair.com next time. SSH? Smoooooooth. As of now, I still have to make my page with emacs and then ftp it ^__^ And MySQL, too... shiny *__*
pair rocks :) i've tacked four domains onto my account so far, and each of them only adds $1 to the cost per month.
looking at the stuff, i could almost even downgrade to Advanced, what they're offering with each different account type has gone up so much that new Advanced is as good as old Webmaster!
Endore.com is pretty good. Genius Hosting (http://www.genius-hosting.com) is also pretty good, especially if you want a lot of bandwidth for not a lot of money (if you pay in quarterly chunks, you can get 1GB of space and 10GB of transfer for 9.00, tho' not as stable as endore.)
I switched to HostRoute...I had some initial teething problems (as I'm sure you have read) but they seemed to have worked themselves out once my domain name switched over. So far, I'm pleased with them :) http://www.hostroute.com
That's who I'm with now, actually. I don't have any complaints; they've been great. Support can be a little slow on occasion, but they've never flat-out ignored me like SOME of my other hosts...
Wishing-blue uses a company called hostculture (hostculture.com). Similar to everyone else's glowing reviews about their hosts, the owner of hostculture seems like a really nice guy and he answers e-mails and fixes things with amazing speed. Good luck with your domain Obaa....
