...I'm not sure I get it.

I mean the names in The Last Airbender are Asian influenced, as are the clothing and the architecture, so it's harder to justify "oh, they're white".

People try anyway. :/ But applying their arguments to FMA just highlights the flaws. I love it.

I'm honestly not sure what's funnier -- the brilliant anon, or the persistent Not Getting It in the comments.

I'm giving the edge to brilliant anon...but only by a hair.

This may well be the one and only time where a race-related discussion is hysterically funny.

I saw that today. It took me a minute to figure it out but then I was laughing.

1, sweet Zuko icon.

2, are you talking about #105? I guess it's supposed to be...ironic? Because those listed reasons ARE why I think of Ed as psuedo-Caucasian, and also why I think of ATLA characters as psuedo-Asian.

lol wrong account

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
That's the whole point. F!S has had a lot of Avatar secrets with people pulling out all the tired reasons why the Avatar characters aren't actually Asian. The secretmaker took those reasons and applied them to FMA to highlight their flaws.

[identity profile] jaina.livejournal.com 2010-03-06 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's the best thing I've seen there in weeks.

I enjoyed the hell out of that secret, NGL <3

It was glorious. "What is thi--AHAHAHAHAAHAHA."

And you know, I didn't notice a lot of rebuttal from the usual pro-casting commenters. Golly gee, imagine that.

Does it really need rebutting? If a fictional character's culture is strongly based on real cultural elements like this, the two stance opinions come down to "origonal work purist" and "blatant racist."

Also, dude that made #132 totally missed the point of Being Human season 2.

That poster deserves a cookie. A racially friendly cookie. :)
