This had been going on too long, and Rukia didn't know when she could expect backup--assuming her frantic message had gotten through. The Hollow leered at her from across the torn landscape, orange hair spilling down its back.

It would be easy to give up now. But nothing was harder than imagining his face later if she did.

Rukia raised her sword and waited for him to charge.
