Birthday wishes, Cedar Point update, and general schna
"Schna" is a much better word than "stuff", don't you think? Well, I do. *g* Duh. Dam Char for sharing catchy slang with me!
So first...second off...
So why is it that I always think of fun, somewhat thought-provoking things to write about while I'm at work, but the ideas are GONE GONE GONE by the time I get home? I suppose that's food service for you, sucks the brain right out. I only have a week and a couple of days left, so I don't have long to complain. Kind of skeery, though--band is coming up. I'm just afraid that I won't do well this year. Well, I guess that's a reminder to practice, then. Happy-fun musical thoughts and prayers wouldbe appreciated. ;) I did have a couple of good fic ideas over the ice cream dipping station on Monday--something small but semi-important to *cue ominous music* The Plot that Val and I are working on. I'm really glad that girl has photoshop--she sent me something she made the other night that made me laugh out loud.
Ugh. The phone just rang. I hate telemarketers.
The second thing--yeah, I know it's just a fic, but it still saddens me that in the MiR world, Endymion's lovely face will be marred by a scar. Sniff. What can I say, the poor boy just doesn't want to believe that his love could really have been brainwashed to evil. She...convines him. With a sword. Ouch. Been pondering the placement...not right across his forehead/nose bridge like Seifer and Squall, because a)that would be cheesy and stupid and b)it's kind of hard to get a cut that precise that doesn't splatter the recipient's brains across the landscape. I think I settled on the right side of his face, since MK is right-handed and would be swinging that way. Hee hee! Have quite a bit of work before I get to the point, but it's fun to know that Char has already done a sketch of it. O.o Damn, that girl draws fast! I don't mind, though. No matter what she does, whether it's MiR, a comic strip, or just random schna, her work is always a delight. I need to tell her so more often. I haven't seen the new pic, but I'm sure it'll be great whenever she gets her ass online.
So...Cedar Point. FUN! Say what you like about Ohio, when all is said and done we still have the world's best amusement park for roller coasters. And the Millennium Force may now be the world's secondest fastest/steepest/tallest (whatever the records were) coaster, but it's the best on this continent, in this hemisphere, etc. I think the other one is in Japan or something.
Anyways, Rhonda, Jessica, Patty, Jeff and I left at the ungodly hour of 8 AM. A single mishap occurred when Rhonda pulled around this policeman parked in the middle of the road. He was standing and seemed to motion her through--he didn't wave her to a stop--and we came close to hitting a van coming from the other direction. Then the cop has the balls to pull her over. He gave her a warning for driving without caution. No ticket, that's good, but Jesus H. CHRIST on a pogostick, how can he park in the middle of the road and expect it to be safe? He had pulled this lady over for speeding and sent her ahead to this stony driveway alcove type thingie, which is why he was in the road. But seriously, that is just unsafe behavior. I'm not a cop-basher, but it really seemed like this guy was looking hard for excuses to pull people over.
Anyways, we got to the park and went on Millennium Force first. Wheee! It really is cool. An eighty-degree drop is the same as a ninety when you're actually in the car facing downward. The ground is parallel to your face! Fast, fun ride, well worth the nearly two-hour wait. That was the longest line, though. We also went on the Mean Streak, Mantis, Raptor, Magnum, and Gemini. Patty doesn't like the big coasters, but she sucked it up enough to go on the Mean Streak, so good for her. The Iron Dragon was down until right when we were leaving the park after the laser show, though, which kind of sucked. It may be an old, smaller ride, but it's charming! Contrary to Josh's opinion, going on MF first did not ruin all of the other coasters. Geez, by the time I got to some of the others, the memory of how MF felt wasn't fresh in my mind. The boy does tend to over-dramatize things on occasion.
The only bad part of the day was that it was SO DAMN HOT. We were coated in layers of sweat and sunblock by the end of the day, eeyuch. Both Jessie and I gave ourselves impromtu bikini tops by folding the bottom parts of our shirts up and tucked into our bras. Guh, it was so hot. It didn't help me any when I squealed at the sight of a Dance Dance Revolution machine in the arcade and dragged everyone to see it. Unfortunately, it wasn't the Dance Dance USA version, which is the easiest for beginners, but I think they got why I liked it so much, especially Jeff. I wouldn't be surprised if he ever bought some home version of it, or at least macked on mine all the time when I get it. Heh. He already had a bunch of the songs, now he can appreciate them. His enthusiasm is contagious, I now have far too many remixes of Butterfly. Five, in fact. And this song isn't even very long...other new Dance Dance favorites are Dub-I-Dub from when we danced at Utah Fundome, and Boom Boom Dollar. Whee! Dance Dance Revolution kicks ass!
Oh, and I also bought a pair of blinking red devil horns at CP. Heheheh. I can have fun with those. On the way home, we tormented Jeff with girl talk of boobs and periods and cramps. Poor guy. We can rationalize it by saying we're preparing him for college, I'm sure. Heehee.
Joined a couple of fanfiction.net mailing lists this week in lieu of the actual site. *oats the site, don't worry, you just get better soon* Only the writers list has some real traffic going on. There's a ton of mail on it, so I'm on digest, but that makes I harder to read and reply. Great for procrastination, though. There are plenty of morons on the list, but that's true with a lot of lists, and there are glimmers of intelligence there. Everyone seems nice enough. Mind is still boggling at the thought of a Jurassic Park III/Dogma crossover. *boggles some more* I also made an effort to regularly check and participate in the Godawful Fic forums. Unfortunately, there's a damn annoying little troll oveer there, pumping out huge annoying threads over some controversial issue that I don't understand at all. Don't really want to, either. Trolls are such pains. Occasionally they can be fun to mock, but I'd rather deal with ten idiots who don't know how to post or change their options on my mailing list than one troll. I think everyone is ignoring the little bastard now, so maybe s/he'll got bored and go away soon. Sadly, that's usually the only way to get rid of trolls. You can't kill them, you can only send them back to their bridges.
Hmm...what else is there to report? Not much, really. I'm looking forward to band camp, but some aspects will suck. I don't mind the physical effort, but I hate working outside in extreme heat and humidity. Actually, if I can make a deal with Mr. Weather, I'll take the heat over the humidity. Utah was hotter than Ohio, being in a desert and all, but there was zero humidity and it was great, especially for de-frizzing my hair. That'll be shorter soon enough, so we'll see if it makes any difference...it can also get a little lonely at band camp. There are enough trumpet activities and fun stuff that it won't be too bad, but it will definitely be better when everyone gets to school. Miss Val! Miss Val so much! Definitely Becky and Eric too, though I've gotten to see Eric several times this summer. He stopped into Dairy Queen the other day to surprise me again. It worked! It was such a hellaciously busy evening for the drive-through, we didn't get to talk much, but it was nice to hug him again. His hair is growing longer and is still pretty, I'm pleased to report. Thank GOD he's not cutting his hair for ROTC after all, it would be a crime to cut it. He still needs to re-grow his sideburns. The boy was gifted with pretty hair.
Aren't my ramblings entertaining? Oh, well, they are to me, and note the name on the livejournal. ;) Until later...
So first...second off...
