If this is some kind of logic problem, I fail.

I need to get a new computer. Here is my dilemma:

-I don't really want to get a laptop as my primary computer because I find them too squished together for desktop use, and I have a nice LCD monitor I want to continue to use.
-I like Macs but they are effin' expensive, and $1000 minimum is really more than I can justify. I have never in my life taken on credit card debt I couldn't pay off at the end of the month and I'm not going to start now.
-So I could buy a PC but there's the issue of Vista. Fucking Vista. I don't want Vista, and even if I get a computer with XP on it or install XP over Vista, in time, Vista's gonna be the way of things and I am not enthused about that.
-Linux. Let's just say "NO" and leave it at that. Besides, I don't have any pirated Photoshop for Linux.

So this leaves me in a position of...NOTHING is suitable, so I sit spinning my wheels and using the old computer. Which sort of sucks since the secondary hard drive died in, like, February.

WHAT DO I DO?

It's not so much that the debt freaks me out as I've never seen the point of taking it on when I don't have to. I'd rather just suck it up and drop a bunch instead of letting the card companies get their chunk.

Honestly, I'm not sure if the Mac is what I want. Basically I want my current computer to not be getting old and busted. :/ I guess that won't happen though.

I will say that I've had longer 'relevancy life' with a Mac than I've ever had with a PC, and PCs don't seem to be getting any better on that scale. My work computer is almost six years old and it's finally needing replacing now-- but I do an asston of Photoshop work on it and it uses a lot of memory. That might be something to take into account.

Having said that, my laptop's a PC.

My current PC is six years old too, actually. I guess that's old?

Yeah, it's pretty old. Our uber-cheap office replaces computers every five years, and the PCs that were just replaced were hardly running anything by the end.

Rock on, Mac friend.

I adore my powerbook. ADORE. I've had it almost three years and the only problem that I ever had with it was covered by my apple care plan. They really do work so much better than PCs.
