Blogging For Choice Day: Why am I pro-choice?

Because, while many pro-lifers' ideals might not be so harsh, when it comes to the actual laws being created and social culture of our society today, one can either be pro-choice or anti-woman.

Too binary for me. I hate binaries.

If I were referring to ideology in general, it'd be too binary for me, too. But--and I would love to be wrong--I see the way the hardcore right-wingers push and push and push back women's options even before a pregnancy actually occurs, and I see the way they would like to chip away at choice until there's none left, and for now, while they still hold power, I feel that it's an either/or situation--that if people don't stand up for choice, that anti-woman laws will be passed, at least in this country. Ask me about pro-life and pro-choice philosophies and my answer would have to include more shades of gray.

But as always, I am happy to respectfully agree to disagree, because there's no one my flist I don't feel has something worth saying. :)

I used to be pro-life, until I got more into feminist thinking and a little reading and realized that my ideals really were something that could hurt women. It's still not something I'm really comfortable about, to be honest.

I could go on about what would be true in an ideal world but we don't have one.

So you're anti-binary?

I'm quite firmly pro-choice, but a friend linked this unusual group quite some time ago during one of these LJ debates.

No kidding. Might be harsh, but that's just the way it is.
