Orihime knows her love is a one-way thing. Believes it, anyway, judging by 213--and I think she's RIGHT, but either way, this is her perception. And this is not a romantic scene. I know we're gonna see a barrage of icons from this chapter from the IchiHime folks, but--not romantic. This is tragic. But it had to be done.
The love confession is not about Ichigo, except in the sense he's the object of affection. I don't believe she would tell him even without Ulquiorra's requirement, because it'd mess him up at a time he's got a LOT of heavy shit to think about already, and because she's not looking for a favorable response. Would love one, certainly, but does not expect one.
This isn't about Ichigo reciprocating or not. He doesn't NEED to be awake. This is about Orihime--admitting her feelings, getting the weight off. Getting some kind of closure--not that I expect her to immediately start getting over him (hello, she clearly expects to die or not come back ever), but she's said it. It's out. She isn't holding back. And she needed it.
It's not about Ichigo. It's about Orihime saying it for herself.
And while I really, truly do not want to touch the pairing spooge, I think Ichigo's reaction is gonna make or break the possibility of canon IchiHime. If he doesn't have any revelations or react worse than he would to any friend, well, that's all she wrote IMHO. Because if he's supposed to end up falling for her...if not now, when? BUT. I really don't care very much about that, because OMG CHAPTER, YOU KICKED ME IN THE EMOTIONAL NADS.
