What's a pirate's favorite letter? Arrrrrr.

Yesterday was a nice easy Saturday--I couldn't sleep for an hour before my alarm went off, because we were going to see a matinee of Dead Man's Chest around the time I am occasionally just wandering out of my room for breakfast, and I could not sleep in and make us late! Casey, Kirk and I went to see it at Menlo. and then we malled for a few hours and I got Nana vol. 3 and an introductory book on making wire jewelry, which I've wanted to do for ages. Next paycheck I'll actually go get the supplies. But on to the main subject--PIRATES!

There were some problems, to be sure--the pacing felt a little off, and compared to the first movie, there were fewer scenes with just the characters bouncing off each other, probably because so much happened that a lot of the time it was rushrushrush. This one also lacked the element of surprise at the sheer awesomeness of Captain Jack that the first one had. So yeah, not perfect, but I think it got better as it went, and the flaws did not take away from the many MANY moments of FABULOUS.

And oh man, there was so much fabulousness. Elizabeth and Will, you had me at the snapped "Captain!" DON'T TELL ME YOU CAN'T SEE THE OT3. Jack's entrance was perfect--I saw it coming, and cheered when it did. Oh Jack, never change. <3

I liked Will more in this one. Nothing against him in the first one, but he was a lot craftier and cannier in this one. Jack's influence and the desire to get married and laid, I suppose. I have my doubts as to whether he could teach Elizabeth to fight with a sword that well that fast, but I love good fight scenes so I don't care. Elizabeth is smokin' hot in boywear, fyi. Keira Knightley is totally on my Would Switch Teams For list.

The tentacle effects were AWESOME. We're used to giant scary monsters in movies, but they did a good job of conveying the horror of this leviathan from the deep. Also, Kraken/Black Pearl OTP. Between recent chapters of Bleach and this, I'm starting to worry about all the tentacle sex in my media consumption.

The fights. OH THE FIGHTS. The wheel thing, while ridiculous, was also AWESOME and the three-way sword fight made me want to make out with the movie screen it was THAT GREAT, as was pirate!Norrington, though I'm sorry we didn't get more of him, and I hope we see more depth in him in the next one. But I about SQUEALED when he showed up--it was just so well done. And Jack hiding behind a plant, hee.

Oh and the dead monkey! Jack WOULD keep him around for stress-relief via shooting. As would I. As would everyone.

Elizabeth...was the star of this movie for me. She kicked so much ass, and I don't just mean with the swords, although that was pretty cool. Saving Norrington! Having the mad sexy tension with Jack! "Guard the chest!" "NO!" AND THE MAKING OUT. God, that was great, and hot, and she totally handcuffed him to the ship! This girl is a born pirate. On the ship of their (eventual?) marriage, she is the captain and Will is first mate at best. She's a pirate! Jack says so! And they just UNDERSTAND each other in that moment. Will, don't you dare get jealous, becuse you can make out with Jack too and the OT3 will be complete.

The end...oh man. The end. I need to see it again, because I was always half a beat behind witch doctor woman since I couldn't understand what she was saying right away. I did NOT see that coming, BUT I LOVED IT. BARBOSSA!!!!!!!! I loved it so much I just abused the exclamation point like a crazy person. I actually had no idea the second and third movies would be so connected--I was so unspoiled I just figured they were doing two separate sequels. And now I must see the next one, like, tomorrow. A lot of people clapped at the end, and there was this feeling in the theater like "Oh, Verbinski, you magnificent bastard--you got us. You got us hard." BARBOSSA. <3 <3 <3 SO HAPPY.

And then of course we left like dumbasses before the credits finished. Now I HAVE to go again just to see King Dog and his servants. Ahahaha.
