Short take on Veronica Mars

I hate to say it--and I hope it's the last time I have to say it about this show--but last night's Veronica Mars was... awful. Not the acting or anything like that, just the story--the A-plot. Not even because it was completely ripped off of 12 Angry Men (I don't count it as a homage if they don't do ANYTHING new with it. Convicting instead of acquitting DOESN'T COUNT) but because it would never happen. It just...wouldn't. A high schooler would not end up on that trial. A high schooler might not end up on ANY trial, I don't know how picky they are about these things, but absolutely not on a case like this that, in real life, could easily go beyond the amount of time Veronica has off for vacation, especially since court would not be in session during the actual holidays.

I realize that we have to stretch our imagination for some things. Like last week--I thought the A plot was a little dumb but I realize no one but me cares about getting the details of high school administration to be true to life. So I said to myself, even though 99% of the time last week's plot would never happen, it COULD. I could live with it. But this week? There's no stretching to be done. It flat out would not happen. Fucking ridiculous. It was only made worse because there were so many more non-A plot elements that were much more interesting.

It was a weak MotW for me, too, but mainly b/c, as yet, it doesn't tie into the larger arcs. But I thought it was a way of getting V out of the real mystery biz, so she doesn't know what Keith, Logan, or Leo have been up to.
Duncan is such a badly written and/or acted character whose motivations and knowledge are too unclear.
Did like the continuity w/ references to s1 happenings. And, of course, WALLACE.

Ironically, it was the first full episode I've seen of the show, after much encouragement.

... yeah.

We'll ignore that last eight years of my life with experience in the legal field plus the jury service from a bit ago, shall we?

Oh dear lord. I'm so sorry that this is your first impression.

I hope you don't write it off after this, though I wouldn't blame you if you did.

I like to think that Wallace's very welcome arrival heralds good things to come. I've also liked Duncan somewhat in the past, but after this week I don't care if we ever see him again--too bad, since he's Emma's college friend and I feel bad wishing anyone from real life (even tangentially) out of work. XD

Amen to what she said. Last week woulda been a better intro, although the writing on V's car did take us back to the beginning. Not only bad ep, but V-lite in many ways that make the show good.
Maybe get the s1 DVDs from someone like [livejournal.com profile] autumnt?
