*cries*

This is happening again, and though installing the Windows updates helped for a day, I'm all outta updates. Virus and spyware checks turn up nothing. If any of you has the time and inclination, PLEASE help me with this. I will be eternally grateful.

Do you have MSN Messenger? Because I think you may have a worm.

From your log:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll

And here's something I read in one of my classes:

Malcode Details:
---------------------------------------
Initial IM Worm — W32/Bropia (many variants)
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/
w32.bropia.n.html
IRCbots That Follow (SDbot, RXbot, Spybot, Gaobot)**
** Note that these worms to initial network scans and brute
force passwd cracking, so it is critical to ensure that
the machine remains offline until secured.

Shhh i'm hunting Wootkits.

[identity profile] gurubob.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
try all but the last one.. just to get a lay of the land....
Bob

it's Wootkit season.. hehheheh

FIRST download and run filemon BEFORE doing anything kooky which has caused you problems in the past. leave it running so you can capture all the output during your hunting session
the url is :
http://www.sysinternals.com/files/NTFILMON.ZIP

now data gathering:

1. run this from a command prompt and post the output (services.htm):

wmic /output:C:\services.htm service get /format:hform

2. google up BHODaemon and run it. make sure you download the lastest version and signature files when you run it.

3. when you have the problem have a dos box ready and run these commands in order:

netstat -abvo > c:\jainaprobs.txt (this could take a while)
tasklist /v >> c:\jainaprobs.txt (note the >>)
tasklist /svc >> c:\jainaprobs.txt (note the >>)
tasklist /m >> c:\jainaprobs.txt (note the >>)

post the jainaprobs.txt file

4. download and run rkdetect from http://www.security.nnov.ru/soft/

post any anomalies

5. download and run fport from http://www.foundstone.com/index.htm?subnav=resources/navigation.htm&subcontent=/resources/freetools.htm

post the results.

6: in a dos box do a
net share

post the results

do this asa a last resorts - if i can't find anything in your logs:

sfc /scannow

this will check and restore windows system files against known good ones in cache. you will need your cd possibly.

get and run this too

this has just been released:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/rootkitreveal.shtml

I wouldn't be calling your problem a RAM problem unless things were a lot more widespread and quiry than they have been..

as this picks up the main known published rootkits, I'd say running this would rule out malware as a cause of your problem.

before hardware, I'd be looking at a corrupted file.. SFC or a windows zorch and reinstall before hardware repair/replacement.
