A dilemma

It's really quite cold in here.  I want to turn the heat on just a scoch.  When I turn the heat on, it smells like burning and the smoke alarm goes off.  The realtor is closed until tomorrow so I can't call maintenance.

Fffffuuuuuuuuck.

*bundles up*

I do sympathize--My first night in here I managed to get the window stuck wide open and it was fucking freezing (I also now have a horde of fruit flies. Yay!) Do you have a heaty blanket or anything?

Nope, but I've got warmer clothes on and the blinds open for sunlight, so it's a little better. The fruit flies thing sounds way worse, yuck! Tomorrow I'll definitely call maintenance. It smelled like it does when I have a hair dryer that is about to die.

I think the fruit flies are taking revenge on me for a lab I did about this time last year where we crossbred them in a genetics expiriment. I'm waiting for it to freeze so they'll all die.

It smelled like it does when I have a hair dryer that is about to die.

Mmm, the fresh scent of a fire hazard!

It wanted to set the place on fire and burn my extensive collection of pornographic doujinshi. I can't be having with that.

Here's a thought. Perhaps the heater is just dirty? If too much dust gets in there, that could cause your problem.

Or you have a bad heater. Either/or.

I thought about that, and it could be true, but it's a hotel-type wall unit, not something I can clean myself except for the outside. Plus they JUST changed the filter, so you wouldn't think it would be that dusty already.

Actually, they just changed stuff for the smoke alarms, not the heater, if you're talking about the day they came in to everybody's apartments at 9AM.

Maybe yours didn't need it? Cuz they definitely changed a filter thing in my heater/cooler thing.

I wish I knew what it meant to be cold. It has been in the 90's lately here in Redding and at night it is in the 60's. We don't even know how to run a heater!
