My computer shat the bed and died about 2 weeks ago so I'm in the market for a new one. Whats your new toy?

My brother made it so it's a mishmash of what he thought was good, but it's got 3 gigs of RAM, 100 gigs of space on a RAID drive, and a dual or quad processor or sommat. And Vista, but nothing's perfect.

But honestly, I got my last computer in 2001 so anything would be legions better.

LOL my eMachines somehow made it to 5 years so I can't be too upset it exploded. I wish I had a geek to make me a computer too. Time to go loiter in the Intel parking lot and show a little ankle to the techies!

Vista isn't so bad... I've dealt with worse OSs. Did he put any neon into the case, cuz case-mods; very shiny.

No neon, but it was have that cool window on the side! I think he kept the bling to a minimum because I was looking to keep it under a grand, and we didn't quite manage that. It's pretty sweet-looking still.

Vista has had a couple moments of hinkiness so far, but I suppose I'll get used to it. I left it on and installing updates while I went to work today, so when I get home I suppose I'll learn whether it just wants to take a ridiculously long time to update or if it's a "never ever gonna resolve" issue.

Usually it's just a ridiculously long update, but that partly depends on bandwidth. The thing I like best is... the aurora wallpaper. :-)

Hee! The wallpaper is LOVELY. And I do kinda dig the variably-transparent window borders. Stylistically, it's very nice all around.

I looks nice, a lot of the style seems to repeat some Linux effects (doubtless they used different code). My biggest problem here is printers, it took a while to iron out all the printer problems, but a few registry hacks later, everything is happy-happy. My next PC I think will be the Eee laptop. Eeeeee! :-)
