So a while ago—holy crap, coming up on two years?—I started running as a form of exercise. I'd been working out for a while, mostly elliptical and some machines at my gym, and while that was helpful, it didn't help get rid of some extra flab or build muscle. (I know health isn't determined just by pounds, but when there's not much noticeable difference in any form...) So I started doing the Couch-to-5k program. It took more than the official two months the program schedules, since I'd stick on one segment until I felt ready to move on, but eventually I got there, and I actually have run a couple of 5ks now. (The first one was a better time. This summer, I slacked off on running and the weather was very humid and heavy.)

I've never been a runner. Did it for a couple years in middle school, short and long distances both, and really didn't enjoy it. It was physically unfun and mentally boring. Tennis was much more engaging. But like I keep explaining to people, I started running recently because I'm actually lazy. No, it makes sense! I got more bang for my buck with running. 30 minutes of jogging a couple times a week got bigger results than 30 minutes of elliptical a couple times a week. So I might have to put more effort into it while I'm exercising, but I can go home sooner and be lazy. But I don't like running, I've said. It's just an efficiency thing, that's all.

This week I did my first five-mile run.

I don't think I can use that excuse anymore.

I owe a bunch of you updates and at least one PM and I haven't forgotten, but prepping for an event this week + traveling to Ohio this morning = gonna be behind on things probably until I get back Tuesday night, but I haven't forgotten anyone. Just wanted to say.

Ugh, I should not have eaten that entire blizzard.

-Note to self: eating healthier lunches is good. But bring bigger ones, because two hours later your stomach will already be a bit growly.

-I think I will buy myself some Valentine's chocolate this weekend. I don't need a SO for that. But if anyone wants to give me some free chocolate, hey, cool.

-Not going to Katsucon this weekend, thank goodness. I heard from a little birdie that the dealer's room wasn't even set up when vendors arrived. That's kind of not a good sign.

Here's that periodic derpy RP meme!

This weekend has been good for fun and bad for my wallet. I enjoyed it, despite not getting to sleep in either day. Grr argh.

On Saturday, I hit NYAF with the rest of Disorganization XIII and had fun being a panelist on the fanfiction panel. I'm obviously biased, but I think it went well--definitely better than some of the crap-ass fic panels I've been to at cons, which I guess was the idea behind doing one ourselves. It was fun, and a good, fairly thoughtful discussion with the audience. Apparently my face got REALLY red when I started ranting in response to a question about the use of Japanese in fics. Heh. I wish I had a picture of that!

Today, [livejournal.com profile] arafel and I went shopping at the outlet mall by her and I came up with three pairs of shoes. We agreed that the shoe-shopping would go better with the guidance of [livejournal.com profile] buttercup0222, queen of shoes, but I think we did pretty well all the same.

To my surprise, a new season of The Amazing Race started tonight. Why does no one tell me the important things?! Ah, well. It makes me happy. And they go to somewhere I've been in the first episode, so I got to be the "OH OH I KNOW WHERE THAT IS I KNOW WHERE THAT IS" dork. As opposed to my usual brand of dork.

Uh oh

1) Wrote most of a Bleach fic about Rukia tormenting Ichigo with a sex survey in a Japanese women's magazine.
2) Visited [livejournal.com profile] emiweebee to decorate a super-poky but pretty Christmas tree.
3) Went to see the Giants choke and lose with [livejournal.com profile] arafel.

All were fun, and at least two of the three were time well spent. (I'm not so sure about the fic.)

Oh my god [livejournal.com profile] emiweebee's parents make me fat with their delicious, delicious food.

...it was totally worth it.

In other news, I went to Target last night to get a 2G flash drive and maybe something for dinner and came away with:

-A 2G flash drive
-Some tomato soup
-Lucky Charms
-A yoga mat
-A cuticle grooming tool
-A metal nail filing board
-Twizzler bites
-A six-pack of those half-cans of Diet Pepsi

Oh, Target. Truly your charms can bewitch us all.

Today I test-drove a Fit and a Civic hybrid at the Honda dealership. They both have their advantages (one of the Fit's being that it's almost $10,000 cheaper) and I'm going to look at some other stuff too, but damned if I don't want the hybrid on sheer cool-factor alone.

I could post on LJ's latest clusterfuck, but it just makes me tired to think about. So here's a post of mishmash instead.

Did I tell you guys I witnessed a car accident on Sunday? It freaked me out a bit, enough to pop a Xanax. In the right line just behind me (I was in the left) I saw this car get cut off by a van that had been following me. It then appeared that the cut-off driver tried to speed up to pass the van on the right, swerved, and then overcorrected to end up swooping in a soft L-shape to slam nose first into the pylon across the road, coming to a halt perpendicular to the left line. Yikes. I'd be surprised if there weren't injuries there. I dug my phone out and called 911, but someone else already had, which is good. I'm really glad I wasn't a bit further back or I'd have been caught up in it. Lesson to drivers: if someone cuts you off, call them an asshole and let it go.

Saw an interesting post on kidfic via [livejournal.com profile] metafandom today. My initial reaction was "blech, no" but then I thought about it and really, it's not fic about characters' kids that I really hate; after all, [livejournal.com profile] scathachdhu wrote a hilarious and adorable one about Rukia and Renji's kid. It's the fact that 99.99% of kidfic is SO BAD. It doesn't help that there are lots of fics about my OTP's kids, and not a single damn one of them has been worth a horse's patoot. Pavlovian conditioning, I guess. But there was this adorable and sweet fic that I read today, so that's good.

Good animal article: Dolphin saves whales.
Bad animal article: 800 dogs removed from a triple-wide trailer. 800 OF THEM, HOLY GOD.

I really want this shirt.

First things first, because I live to bend people to my will: [livejournal.com profile] remixredux08. You sign up. You remix a past fic by someone else. I did it last year and had a ton of fun and got to read some really good fics. We could really use some more Bleach writers, but there are a lot of good fandoms and it'd be fun for any of them.

Amusing thing of the day: I was looking up a song on songmeanings.net and found this in the comments. Some guy defending his favorite band. "MortalWombat, if you knew anything about Jane's Addiction, you would know that they are about pushing boundaries and pushing peoples 'taste buttons' and Perry Farrell has spent most of his life in bed with several women at the same time." LOL. I think we see what's really the most important to this guy!

I had a great time with [livejournal.com profile] utenatai at Katsucon (we discussed whether an "Oh snap!" from an uninvolved third party is truly a dig, or simply an acknowledgment that a snap has, in fact, been made. It was very intellectual) and with [livejournal.com profile] buttercup0222 around DC. There was shopping, there was monument-ing, there were donuts and cartoons. Good times. Full post with pics later, hopefully. I didn't leave work until 9 yesterday, so was kinda busy there. Closing weeks suck.

I'm trying to edit up the follow-up to Setting Sun, Rising Moon for posting. It's both interesting, because writing that SSRM affected how I view this, which was largely written first, and horrifying, because this is a first draft done over a year ago and...yeah. I can do better now, let's just leave it at that.

I really hope work doesn't go late tonight. I need to do laundry. I am running out of socks.

Good times

I ended up going to the doctor for 1) the check-in he wanted before prescribing a new round of Lexapro 2) medicine to exorcise the demon beast in my chest 3) something to ease the ow in my neck and shoulders from the fall. He came through on all counts and insisted I had lost weight, so here's to you, doc. ILU. Now I've got a veritable cocktail of pills.

The Super Bowl gathering at [livejournal.com profile] arafel's place was a blast. The food and company were both quite good, and even though I hadn't been a big football follower, the enthusiasm was contagious and I found myself cheering or groaning with complete sincerity. The jumping up and down when WE WON was totally heartfelt. What an exciting game that was. Some of the commercials were pretty fun, too. It's hard to pick a favorite, but the screaming squirrel/other animals (hee hee, screaming grasshopper) and the Coke Causes Bi-partisan Friendship ones were pretty great. I also won the pot for the random wall-thingie for guessing the final score, which amused me a great deal since I was the newbiest football person there.

Speaking of "HOLY SHIT THAT'S AWESOME," who wants to go to the Chocolate World Expo at Palisades next Sunday? OM NOM NOM.

Aside from the BOY DO-RAMA from Friday (which has been resolved on my end at least, though tomorrow might be an interesting workday), it was a nice weekend. Hung with [livejournal.com profile] lovediamond and Summer on Friday for füd and Avatar premierin'. My thoughts on the episode as follows, though I'm sure I'll leave out something crucial BUTOHWELL:My thoughts, let me give you them )

Yesterday I drove down to [livejournal.com profile] emiweebee's house for hanging and played with her kitties: one fat, one skinny, both cute. It was fun to see her again, since we haven't hung out in at least a month, and her parents always make me feel very welcome. And their no-longer-under-construction house is very nice. Today I did not much, but I had a nice exercise session at the gym. I can already tell my midsection is gonna be all hurty tomorrow.

Results of the [livejournal.com profile] ichi_ruki contest came out and CONGRATULATIONS [livejournal.com profile] hallowd and [livejournal.com profile] kasuchi! I'm especially pleased for you, Aino--this is one time when I think first place went to exactly who it should've.

Someday I'll learn to art of making weekend update posts not halfway through the week. It was a fun weekend--I got to hang out and have dinner/unnecessary but yummy ice cream with [livejournal.com profile] lovediamond on Friday. Much Bleach chatter ensued. On Saturday morning, I drove down to join [livejournal.com profile] irenak for an afternoon at Wizard World Philadelphia. It was pretty fun--not really much panel stuff going on while we there, so we mostly just wandered around the dealers room, browsing for purchases and gaping at exhibitors' booths. (The Witchblade anime is JUST short of being actual hentai. Ick.) I picked up a couple of Alias trade paperbacks for $10 each, which made me happy. Also bought some licorice and fudge at Reading Market, most of which [livejournal.com profile] irenak's dog ate later, along with the plastic packaging. I didn't actually mind much, as I really don't need to be consuming a hunk of fudge. At home, we watched 6 eps of Dr. Who (I'm hooked) and talked all things fandom and fic. I always walk away from our weekends hanging out feeling really inspired to write, but there's never enough time. Then on Monday, I got to have lunch with the always delightful [livejournal.com profile] roserevolution, who was buying spiffy new outfits at Palisades for her spiffy new job.

So the weekend was good--the subject line of this post refers to the insomnia I had again last night. How long can this go on?! I was exhausted when I went to sleep at 1:30, slept for about an hour, then popped awake. Got a bit of fitful sleep, was awake again around 4 and got up to say good night/good morning to [livejournal.com profile] lovediamond on AIM at 5 AM. So the only really uninterrupted sleep i got was 5-8ish. I feel like a zombie today.

I'm going to cut out caffeine in the form of my beloved Lime Diet Cooke entirely in the evenings, but I don't even know if that's what's doing it. I've been having minor anxiety attacks about my breathing--I don't remember if I mentioned it here, but I'd gone to the doc for persistent chest tightness that could potentially be adult-onset asthma, could potentially be something else. Ironically, the tightness has gone drastically down since I got back from [livejournal.com profile] dialogue's wedding, so it's not like I even have anything to worry about. But I keep feeling like I need to take deep breaths--sort of like when yawning, except it's not yawning--until I stop thinking about it, then it pretty much goes away. So I'm thinking it has to be in my head. But knowing that doesn't DO anything about it. SIGH. In any case, I'm thinking it's a good idea to go to the walk-in x-ray place to get the chest scan the doctor referred me for just in case. It'll check out the asthma thing and if everything checks out all right on the scan, maybe I'll stop going mental. Ugh.

In happier news, I finally FINALLY have a title for Dead Ichigo, my big mclargehuge Bleach fic I've been working on for like a year. Should be able to start posting it in a couple weeks if [livejournal.com profile] hecatehatesthat keeps up with the awesome beta. YAYS. I am not awesome at titles on my best day, but this one took extra gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. [livejournal.com profile] hallowd was not wrong to refer to the brainstorming period as the "Iliad of Woe." [livejournal.com profile] utenatai, [livejournal.com profile] tenebris and [livejournal.com profile] hecatehatesthat all had a hand in molding the title. Lo, they rule.

Next weekend is Anime Expo, which kicks off my month of ASHALKJGDSADKHGJAGDSAD. [livejournal.com profile] sarcasticval and [livejournal.com profile] utenatai, I know how to hook up with you there, but [livejournal.com profile] banfennid, we need to sort stuff out. I'm not leaving California again without getting to hang with you. :) I don't know what our work schedule is for the con but we should know before we leave. I hope this time we don't have an emergency landing in fucking Denver again.
