effervescible: (casual vampire)
So a while ago—holy crap, coming up on two years?—I started running as a form of exercise. I'd been working out for a while, mostly elliptical and some machines at my gym, and while that was helpful, it didn't help get rid of some extra flab or build muscle. (I know health isn't determined just by pounds, but when there's not much noticeable difference in any form...) So I started doing the Couch-to-5k program. It took more than the official two months the program schedules, since I'd stick on one segment until I felt ready to move on, but eventually I got there, and I actually have run a couple of 5ks now. (The first one was a better time. This summer, I slacked off on running and the weather was very humid and heavy.)

I've never been a runner. Did it for a couple years in middle school, short and long distances both, and really didn't enjoy it. It was physically unfun and mentally boring. Tennis was much more engaging. But like I keep explaining to people, I started running recently because I'm actually lazy. No, it makes sense! I got more bang for my buck with running. 30 minutes of jogging a couple times a week got bigger results than 30 minutes of elliptical a couple times a week. So I might have to put more effort into it while I'm exercising, but I can go home sooner and be lazy. But I don't like running, I've said. It's just an efficiency thing, that's all.

This week I did my first five-mile run.

I don't think I can use that excuse anymore.

I owe a bunch of you updates and at least one PM and I haven't forgotten, but prepping for an event this week + traveling to Ohio this morning = gonna be behind on things probably until I get back Tuesday night, but I haven't forgotten anyone. Just wanted to say.

Ugh, I should not have eaten that entire blizzard.
effervescible: (axel - that we might be here tomorrow)
As well as thank everyone individually. I've fallen behind despite having a lot less to do.

Anyway, I'm keeping on keeping on. The first week I was pretty zen, then anxiety started hitting off and on, but I'm sending out resumes, working with at least one placement agency so far, and exploring options. My friends have been pretty great--everyone wants to feed me, and I had some awesome recent visits with the my nerdy RP friends in PA and [livejournal.com profile] irenak for zombie prom in Philly. (We reached the conclusion that we are Old, because two hours was all the zombie prom we needed.)

Getting laid off sucks, but...mmm, I'll handle it. I don't really have much to say about it right now but I didn't want to immediately jump to frivolous lj posting without following up. Thanks, guys.

I just got laid off again.

-Still doing double-duty at work; omg please send coffee.
-Spending most free time now speeding through Birth by Sleep because I'm one of those nerds. 1/3 through. Oh Terra.
-Got a plurk. Still give it the stinkeye as a device for primary OOC game planning, but it's all right for other stuff, I guess. We'll see.

What is this with me posting regularly all of a sudden?! Mercury must be in retrograde. Both stolen from Sooz—one just wasn't enough so I searched through old ones like a stalker. And unlike my usual self I will actually answer this time.

Give me a character from any fandom I know at least fairly well, and I will tell you:

A) My OTP
B) The runner up
C) The anti-ship
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why

And for the RP dorks:

Pick a character of mine and I'll answer: (feel free to pick retired or lolz characters)

01. What would your character die for?
02. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances?
03. What do they dream about?
04. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why?
05. What is their fondest memory?
06. What is their worst memory?
07. What or who was were their most significant influence?
08. What would be their biggest nightmare?
09. What makes them laugh?
10. Who is the most important person in their life?
11. Is your character a virgin? If not, who was their first?
12. Ask whatever question you want!

Scott Pilgrim was awesome. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a non-opening week theater crowd applaud at the end? It was great, loads of fun and helped take my mind off things. It's too bad that it kind of bombed, but I can easily see it having a long life as a DVD cult classic.

Also I want to look like Ramona Flowers.

Now I'm going to go to bed and stare at the ceiling, because I drank aaaaaall of my very large small-size Coke Zero, because gosh darn it, I paid for it.

No, I'm not actually going to die, I'm just doing that "to name it is to claim it" special kind of hypochrondria where I make jokes and then it never happens.

So I can handle sore throats. No big. I really dislike feeling like there's food or something stuck in my throat, which I've kinda felt since Wednesday, with the exceptions of when the sore throat blossomed and that pain obscured the funky feeling. It's annoying as shit to constantly feel like I have to swallow to get something down, except I can't.

If it's still there at the end of this week, I'll go to the doctor (...ugh, now I need to look for my insurance card) but does anyone want to reassure me that it's not A) a bone B) amazingly fast-growing cancer that will choke me by Tuesday? Mob has suggested maybe I ate something that nicked the lining of my throat and this is the healing process and whatever passes for a scab. Maybe. Really not liking this.

Well, a meme. I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] senri.

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee

The People's Republic of Treacle Mine Road had the Glorious Revolution of the 25th of May, in which Keel's Lilac Lads fought for Freedom, Truth, Justice, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hard Boiled Egg. (Also, they fought to avoid dying, and because it seemed the right thing to do at the time.)

All the little angels rise up, rise up,
all the little angels rise up high!
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up,
How do they rise up, rise up high?

They rise heads up, heads up, heads up, they rise heads up, heads up high!

All the little angels rise up, rise up,
All the little angels rise up high!
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up,
How do they rise up, rise up high?

They rise knees up, knees up, knees up, they rise knees up, knees up high!

All the little angels rise up, rise up,
All the little angels rise up high!
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up,
How do they rise up, rise up high?

They rise feet up, feet up, feet up, they rise feet up, feet up high!

All the little angels rise up, rise up,
All the little angels rise up high!

Note: This is a discworld reference in honor of fictional characters that died for a fictional cause, but made you care.

It's a traditional May 25th post.

Well, Kari might. Anyway. Due to a combo of playing Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, replaying KH2 and having it make sense, and picking up Roxas at [livejournal.com profile] sirenspull, I've been getting into it a lot more lately. (I know, I know, several years too late...but backstory really did make a difference. I've posted about this before.)

So then when I was chatting with Dia before I asked her if I could share some thoughts on Axel and I kind of wordvomited into her lap. Poor dear. Remind me to get her pants drycleaned.

Cut because seriously, no one cares. Also spoilers for KH2 and vague references to Days. )

In retrospect I could've just linked this video from KH2: Final Mix, but then then I wouldn't be able to babble so much. And that would be just terrible.

effervescible: (hamster - zomg!)
Holy. Shit.

YOU GUYS, GO READ IT AND THEN TALK TO ME ABOUT IT IN THE COMMENTS BECAUSE HOLY SHIT.

Also, this makes wonderful epic background music.

Every so often I go through a stage where I'm reading a bunch of non-fiction. Seems like it's that time again--I just read Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air, his account of the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster, and man. That was intense. I find myself wanting to read more memoirs of mountain-climbing. It's sort of fascinating, maybe because I know I could never endure that sort of misery myself. Aside from the danger, I just really hate being cold. But I keep imagining the visuals from way up high--they must be amazing.

Now I'm reading Go Down Together, a thorough history of Bonnie and Clyde. Interesting stuff. Their gang kind of failed at being good criminals, at first--like I told [livejournal.com profile] fadingembers earlier this evening, you could almost imagine Yakity Sax playing during their earlier exploits. And it's easy to feel some sympathy for Clyde, as he was apparently raped for months during his prison stint. But I haven't gotten to the part where they murder a bunch of people yet.

This evening, [livejournal.com profile] fadingembers, [livejournal.com profile] pyrobovaphiliac had some tasty Thai in Nyack and got distracted by Miss Agatha, the cute little (22-years-old!!!) calico cat who lives at the used bookstore, so we nosed around there and I had to get The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: War of the Worlds. This one's probably going to be completely ridiculous, and I can't wait.

To those of you who didn't alert me to the fact that the new Dresden Files came out today (Google? What's that?):

YOU ARE ALL FIRED.

I know I'm bored when I find myself hoping [livejournal.com profile] roleplaysecrets will go up and finally include an appalled secret about how terrible Sooz and I are for allowing Kuchiki Rukia and Allelujah Haptism to spawn baby twins.

You have to admit it would make the afternoon more entertaining.
